Wow! Thank you Wools! Beautiful rendition! I just listened to 4 different versions of this by Manfred Mann which were good but none of them come remotely close to Maestro Bob singing it! Bob’s got the grit Bobs got the soul! Switch up lyrics: People living fast and the cat’s meow, tell me if it upsets you honey…” and his “Yeah”!😃 Right at the start when he does without echoing within etc. So cool! Of course the gorgeous harp part is just perfect! Me oh me oh my love that Bobby guy! 😁 Beautiful footage too! This was just what I needed tonight! 🙌❤️

late sixties, Bob Dylan was asked how he came to write the song “Quinn the Eskimo”. He replied that he’d seen this film in which Anthony Quinn played an Eskimo- The Savage Innocents. He wrote the song based on that idea.

As if people need replacements. Though no one expects to see ads for Bob Dylan replacements, there won't be replacements for anyone else either. Except that when anyone goes, others arrive. We never know what the fates will bring us. Before Dylan arrived on the scene there was Elvis. No one could have imagined someone like that would appear. Like the Beatles he grew over the years to the icon we know him to be. The last thing I would think about when he is gone is who will replace him.

@@johnhamilton5290 Since his time, music itself has changed too much. Many young people today who know drift towards music from the 1960's-1980's bands because music is no longer like that. Sure, as John Lennon's song is titled: "Tomorrow never knows" but not in my lifetime.

Nobody does Bob Dylan Like Bob Dylan. His house is by invitation. It makes me laugh when people think he's past it; He is not, you have to move fast to keep up with him. I just heard some of his recent stuff. It was terrible, the cacophonous sound was excruciating. My friend was leaving the room in disgust. All of a sudden I could literally see what Dylan was describing. I could see the landscape that he was describing like a video. To me, this atrocious noise was a code for a feeling that can only be described as urban insanity. He captured that as with a video camera. The words are worth the effort of bypassing the discordances, that is the point that many people do not understand. He is like a good leader, reminding us of essentials, going to places where we need to follow. What he is telling us is worth hearing. If the harmonica squawks, or note is a little flat, it doesn't matter at all - the music is icing on the cake.

My memory: the song pokes fun at a cop from somewhere around Woodstock and Saugerties, NY, during the time Dylan was recovering from his motorcycle accident...working nearly every day with The Band who were living in the Big Pink house. "Eskimo" refers to Quinn's winter parka...imitation fur-lined. In that story, Quinn disliked the hippies who had moved near Woodstock, and jumped for joy every time he could break up a party, write a traffic ticket, arrest someone, or, generally, bring gloom to the area. Of course, that memory / story goes back nearly 50 years...other stories equally welcome!

hard to say since zimmerman himself has given several different explanations over the years, including that it did not refer to anything or anyone in particular.
