Woah Nate Thurmond on the same team as Wilt is a cheat code. I can only imagine what the NBA would’ve been like going foward with only 8-12 teams.

Thurmond and Wilt playing defense together is insane!

Amazing how Pettit is a forgotten man in NBA history. He was a beast, averaged 26, 16, and 3 for his career, and he's still alive (91), but you hardly ever hear his name. Thurmond deserves more credit, too, but at least he played long enough to be in color.

Also keep in mind he did that without 3 point shot and only two teams beat those celtics teams during Russell years, Pettit hawks were one of those teams

0:26, 0:33, 0:50, 1:56 A rather old Bob Petit displaying his biggest strength, offensive rebounding and drawing fouls! Averaged more than 10 FTA in his career, Led the League in FTM quite few times. His quickness and mid range game made it easier for him to drive to the lane

@jerrywang4892 I think Russell was right, Pettit did get much respect from the referees in his day still a top 1-3 PF of all time in my book imagine him with a 3 point line

Do you agree with Russell that Pettit may have received beneficial treatment from the referees? Ehh I guess the only questionable call here was at :50 what do you think?

All I know is that Pettit was very well known for drawing fouls and such players always have controversial reputation.

Just went to check the 7 game series Bob Petit averaged 21.1pts, 13.1 rebs, 2.9asts on 42% FG and 86% FT Young Nate averaged 9+12 within 29mins game time Given that fact that Bob retired the next year, his number was really decent... especially when it was up against Wilt+Nate

Those were impressive numbers especially the rebounding against that duo

I think Thurmond definitely averaged around as many blocks as Wilt did during the 1964 playoff/finals run just looking at the films on your patron

@@70sfan Thurmond had more blocks in the 64 finals films , and the 64 finals is the series we have the most film of outside of the 69 finals and In this G7 sample he also came close to matching Wilts block total despite playing less minutes and having to play PF guarding Pettit and at the very least we now know Thurmond had a massive impact on the 64 playoffs run despite being a rookie

@@70sfan well A rookie playing out of his natural position getting more blocks on the series we have the most time on than Wilt Chamberlain is definitely relevant to me

@@kingyoung3192 So it is another time when you try to make Wilt look bad? I am not interested in such discussions.
