There was a lot of trash talk prior to and during the 1991 Big Game, and Stanford's star left tackle, Bob Whitfield, was on the receiving end when he went down with a minor injury in the second quarter. California Golden Bear players mocked Whitfield as he lie on the ground after rolling his knee against one of his teammates, and the tackle responded by flipping off the Cal sideline.
Whitfield, who engaged in plenty of trash talk himself, promptly returned to the game. He made an even stronger statement when Stanford's running game pummeled Cal into submission en route to a 38-21 victory over the hubris-laden Bears.
