I guess during the carnage the roosters were having cognac and cigars over chess.

We had 9 chickens until this morning when what we think was a bobcat attacked ! Down to 7. Left one dead by the coop, and carried off with another. I have one wrapped up in a towel warming up, one injured, rest are fine. Found paw prints and matched it with a bobcat. Damn cat !

You should invest in some peacocks and guinea fowl as they would make a good enough alert call as they're loud enough to make noise for danger

Interestingly, my guinea don't say much to alert anyone of danger. Had a goose killed yesterday not farm from their pen. Not a peep

My chickens have a 4 ft fence with a couple strands of electric fence around it. This keeps bobcats out and my chickens safe as long as they stay in the fence (and the electric fence is working properly). We had a dry spell this summer so I installed new wire and ground rods. I haven't finished it yet so my electric fence isn't working.Having a predator proof chicken coop and run is necessary during times such as this.My chickens are locked up.

Have the same problem right now. It comes almost every day and gets a chicken for dinner. Only once saw it to catch a chicken and scared it away. But chickens keep disappearing and my dog is too lazy to protect them.

@@floridagirl386 Put up a flimsy metal fencing around the backyard and the bobcat stopped be a problem (chickens can fly over the fence and escape, and the bobcat will not chase them again until it'll find another hiding place for a surprise attack, but because I removed brush and high vegetation near the fence the bobcat just don't have a place to hide next to it).

Beautiful chickens when they can free range on enough land but such is the price of freedom . Mine stay safely in a pen . I can tell you don't have a rooster by the way the buff hen crouched for mating .

@@floridagirl386 Probably . I would prefer a bigger coop .your run is a great idea . I'm buying a coop and run today as we just moved and can't bring my set up . The new one is 4 x 10 with the coop being 4x4 . We have 4 hens and a rooster .

Lay fence 1' , around the outer edge of the coop ,bury it so they can't dig in past it.

Raising chickens without a protector is cruel get a roosters get a donkey dog whatever dont be like that.

A Rooster isnt going to protect agaist that.... And a donkey certainly isnt going to. Bobcats , like shown in this video are extremely stealthy hunters and you or anything else most likely will never see them or the attack.

as a matter of fact i have and am still, And i never said that you didnt but, you are not aware however of how predators like this behave, i have been predator trapping for many years now and have experience with bobcats. They are a quick kill and run to thick cover. A rooster or donkey isnt going to be able to respond that quickly “ most of the time“. That being said, if having a rooster for example helps protects your flock then by all means do that. But in my opinoin a rooster is most likely going to be targeted and eaten more than feared.

@@boompowzap Its not poaching if its a pest. Just remember that. Any tips for foxes? I have an LGD but, I've lost 4 full size birds. Edit: And also, live traps. Doesnt matter if you relocate it or kill it but, I'd kill it. Now it knows where to get food and it'll come back and pick off your birds one by one. Use stinky fish or something other that reeks for bait, and be sure to cover the back of the trap with tarps or wood.
