"Your body is a community of 100 trillion cells... 10 trillion of them are human" Great first sentence!
@TrevoltIV
16 күн бұрын
While this is not terribly incorrect, it’s more like 28-36 trillion human cells. Newer studies have found that about 43% of our cells are human with the other 57% being bacterial or fungal. It is also crucial to remember that human cells are 100 times larger than bacterial cells, so if we’re counting this based on cells then it’s going to seem like a lot more than it really is. If we were to calculate the ratio based on mass, it would be a much different story, probably about 99% human and 1% bacterial/fungal. The phrase they chose to use in this video gives the impression that we are mostly made of bacteria, but that’s not even close to reality. It’s more like we are big organisms that use some bacteria to do certain processes, mostly relating to metabolism.

it is illustrated well but it certainly lacks detail. for example the RNA polymerase does not work like that. it offten stops and even tracks back sometimes. and the m-RNA is not just floating arround. The biochemical pathways in a cell are more organized than depicted here.

Watch the TED talk by Drew Berry. When speaking about one of his DNA copying animations, he mentions that he intentionally left out details such as error correction for the sake of simplicity, since those mechanisms weren't the focus of the animation. I imagine he's done the same with most of his other animations as well.

I have studied the inner workings of the body for 8 years now, and through my education and intuition, I have been able to picture the processes as depicted above in excruciating detail, just as in the animation. And thinking about it makes me nauseous. Gag Inducer is right, this truly is a terrifying thing to think about for some reason. Funny, huh?

The DNA replication starting at 3 minutes is incorrect. The double helix is unwinded, then replication started for for both strands,one side is replicated by long thread, the other one is by multiple short strands.
