I'm 16 months postpartum and I JUST started to get back into weight training and running outdoors at 13 months PP. Following your recent videos has literally helped me in so many ways and understanding that we are all still healing in so many ways as new moms. I didn't have DR, my abs healed and closed up very nicely according to my midwife, but I had SUCH a protruding mom pooch and weak pelvic floor that NOW I'm starting to work on core functionality and strength. I see and feel the difference but I still have some ways to go. Keeping up with my son is my main goal as to why I decided it was the time to get strong again. He's a little jumping bean! Thank you strong strong friend!

The perspective of changing your thought process to performance rather than aesthetics has been epic for me. Strength training, primarily powerlifting, has been the thing to help me make that shift and it has absolutely changed how I think about and love my body.

I don't post much on KZitem but I've been watching your channel for a few months now and I truly appreciate all the fitness advice you've offered but this video has been the most refreshing, measured, realistic, and mature discussion I've heard from a pregnant/postpartum women EVER. I'm so so SO grateful for this video and I believe more women need to hear it. Everyone's journey is/will be different whether it's just regular aging or pregnancy, but we all have to think of our personal physical and mental health first to be the best person we can be for the next generation. Thank you Meg 🥰

Great job Meg. Your tone is not negative -- it's honest and authentic... which is why I like your content so much and have followed you as long as I have. The point about how our bodies will all change in our lives, regardless if we birth or not, is very important to make. Sure we can choose to not birth, but nobody gets out of aging and all the fun stuff that comes with it. Not to mention other things that may possibly happen in our lives that will result in changes (accidents, injuries, etc.) To let fear of change dictate your life choices is just simply unfounded... change is inevitable and constant. Personally, I'm about 15 months postpartum and there are certain things I wish were different about my body, but I would choose birthing my daughter and all that goes with that over my old body.

Wow this was so helpful for me, I constantly look to the younger woman and miss my old body the fact that YES i have had TWO children but trying to be a good great mom and living life with my kids and husband and then now after 9 years I am finally putting MYSELF first to take care of my body and now I see how much I have neglected it. The fitness journey is very hard, I am trying to get into body building but shoo my negative head always tries to beat me and say things like ' relax chill you dont need this and eat those crisps laugh more have fun' but by eating those crisps I get down on myself and then my body isnt doing what I need it to do, gosh the guilt and negative voice can feel VERY LOUD... THANK YOU FOR THIS video we need more of these to help woman over come the fact that we most put our FAMILY first over US...

Thank you!! I am almost 4 months PP and desperately needed to hear this! After I healed from my son’s birth, it was really challenging mentally for me to feel like my normal self again but not look like my “normal” aka pre-pregnancy self. Trying to give myself grace and time to not bounce-back, even though I feel like that is what society suspects from us. I especially loved your advice to look at the real moms around me, and not the ones on IG that seem to make it all look so easy and attainable. Thank you!! ❤️

I'm a mom of 2, 7 and 5 yrs old now. Had 2 natural births, and am truly in the best shape of my life now vs pre pregnancy. Going through the motions of carrying, birthing and caring for 2 kids with MY BODY gave me a new level of empowerment of what my body is really capable of. Yes, it has changed in ways I would prefer it didn't (deflated boobs, varicose veins, less bladder control), but this is life. Bodies change. Above all my kids have enhanced my life in ways I couldn't have imagined and I love setting an example to them the importance of physical activity. Everyone's experience is different, and I'm grateful to have had minimal complications from having kids, but you may surprise yourself on how your mindset about your body changes in a positive way after kids. Women are capable of amazing things!

Currently 5 months pregnant and this video really spoke to me. As someone who was always slim, my weight ballooned when I began birth control years ago and I was suddenly thrust into the world of body dysmorphia. Over roughly a year and a half I lost all the weight and discovered a true love of lifting. I thought I was on the right track again, not restricting and prioritising performance over aesthetics … and it was all going so well until I got pregnant. I’ve found myself in this rut of overly watching what I eat, exercising a lot (not excessively). To others nothing is really wrong, myself and baby are healthy. However I recognise the mindset behind it is the obsessive fear of becoming overweight again, fear or stretch marks etc. I have been bingeing your pre/post natal content and thank you so much for this very balanced perspective. Such a helpful reminder of examining my thoughts and feelings around body image

I follow my partner and father of my son on twitter, half of the things he likes on his page are half naked women with flat stomachs and smooth skin, actually a lot of the pictures are of their lower halves/flat bellies. I have a mama belly pooch and my belly skin looks like a zebra with stretch marks. Him looking at those pictures all of the time make me so self conscious. I’ve been working to body recomp to lose some belly fat and have been consistently exercising for years. Realistically though I will not be able to look like those women because I’ve had a child and my genetics fucked my skin up with stretch marks. It’s not within my control and I am grateful for my son. I am still working on acceptance and I appreciate you sharing a video like this.

I never took care of my body during my 3 pregnancies. It wasn't until 4 years ago when my youngest was 1 that I finally got my s*** together and started working out and taking care of myself. You can do it at any point in your journey. I'm the healthiest and most fit that I've ever been in my life and it just takes work and determination to be better and you can do it. Thank you for this video! 9 months postpartum with my second and all of these things are great reminders for women. I also didn’t think it was negative to be HONEST - YOUR BODY WILL CHANGE. And it’s OK to struggle with that to a certain degree because all or almost all of the changes are completely unavoidable. But shifting your focus to how you’re feeling and just in general shifting your habits to ensure health does wonders. There is also NO QUICK FIX. Heal. And it made no real difference in my life. When I retired at 66, I decided I'd like my body back. I mostly have it. But by far, the most important thing for me now is my health. I have (through lifting) fixed several medical problems, particularly osteoporosis. I think your focus on strength, stability, nutrition and health are SO right. I’m 6mo PP with baby 2 (baby 1 is 4 years old). I was in great shape before, and in “terrible” shape now. BUT, I’m focused on the process and after every setback I’ve had in my fitness life, I always love hitting the milestones again, like 10 full pushups, my first unassisted pull-up. It gives me a sense of resilience because I never give up trying. I just turned 40 this month and I’m done having babies, so this decade my body is mine again and Im gonna rock it 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 Pull-ups here I come!! That said, body image negative thoughts do creep in sometimes, and I get impatient because I want to lose 30lbs and I wish it happened faster. But I know better.

This is the problem with delaying birth. If you had those kids from 15-25 you would be fine. But having kids in your 30s let alone 40 is very unnatural and hard on a womans body. Im glad you have 2 kids but let this be a warning to other young women out there. Plan to have your kids in your teens and twenties and your body will thank you.

This is awesome. I see a lot of people being afraid to "sacrifice" the way they *feel* their body needs to look all the time in order to have a baby. Love is sacrifice (inner Aritstatilian coming out). Period. It's not a bad thing. Maybe they have had people unwilling to sacrifice for them in their lives so they never really had a model of how great it can be. Sometimes being in a situation where your body changes for a positive reason is exactly what you need! My whole life has been surrounded by moms who have 4 or more kids and they have always looked great. The more kids they had, the more fit they were. Running around with kids all day kept them working out constantly, haha. The U.S. is so odd to me because of the pressure to have only 1-2 kids and have the mom look a certain way. The societal structure is definitely not supportive for parents and the media here goes through a lot of trouble to portray pregnancy and postpartum bodies as horrifying and deadly. It makes me sad. It's the most natural thing the female body could go through.
