Hey, Shane's gun didn't have any bullets in it, you can confirm this by watching the begining of the next episode, when they pick the gun up to defend against the zombie hoard and when it's fired it just clicks because it wasn't loaded, because Shane took Rick out there so Rick could kill him and move on.

i agree with what enigma says here...as much i really didn't like shane at times...i feel the same way about him as i do about a lot of people i don't liek sometimes. just because i don't liek them doesn't mean they don't have valid points. Heck Carver in the video game of TWD was one of the most nasty characters EVER and yet he made very arguments for what he did. dangerous people are often very smart as are crazy people...but the problem is many of them often can't see their own flaws...they don't realise the one flaw in their good arguments is often the fact that they are a part of it. like shane had many valid points but he never saw how he was just as much a problem...and if anyone tried to tel him he just killed them.

My favorite part of this scene is that originally, Shane's gun wasn't loaded in this scene. Shane wanted Rick to kill him, but couldn't bring himself to actually hurt Rick. There are dozens of times when Shane would have gotten the whole group killed or killed other people that Rick was able to turn into reliable new group members. Just think of what would happen if the group met Alexandria under Shanes command. Except Rick didn't really ever turn into Shane. Yeah... He did grow into a far darker and more brutal character after this. But Shane was a more selfish character. Rick has for the most part been driven by more selflessness. It's what Shane wanted that made him fail to see things for what they where. What he wanted for himself... He was totally blind to the truth. Rick on the other just know when to shut down his emotions and go full on cold killer when he has to save his family and friends. I have no doubt Shane wouldn't have ever made it as far as Rick. He might have beaten the Governor. But against Negan... He would either have lead them blindly into a war wich he would ahve lost. I'm going to take this as a sign that you'll eventually do some videos on The Punisher. You know, because Jon Bernthal. You could do some scenes from Daredevil S2, such as the Pawn Shop scene, his argument with Daredevil, the graveyard scene (or his torture via the Irish Mob) From S1, you could look at his conversation with Karen on the riverside, him being tortured by Agent Orange (and his subsequent breakout/punishment), and his interactions with Billy on the carousel. From S2, many of the scenes with Amy would work, or perhaps his interaction with the guy who "likes to take pictures of little girls," or his conversation about his children, in the hospital with Karen.

@@KyotoStationHere lol I know I’m one of those pedantic over-analytical people. It doesn’t really matter; even if he holds it upside-down and pulls the trigger with his pinky, it’s not really important to the show. That said, I’ve been trained in firearms use by the US Army, and everyone I’ve seen who’s had any firearms training at all uses basically the same grip on a semi-auto handgun: thumbs touching each other and pointing forward and a little downward. The entire point of police/military firearms training - which Shane, as a former cop, would have had - is to make the trainee able to perform under intensely stressful situations. Someone like Shane should have drilled his handgun draw and marksmanship so many times that he never consciously thinks about his grip anymore; it should be programmed into his brain as an automatic or habitual action that requires no conscious effort and therefore won’t be affected by intense stress/adrenaline. Just like you can tie your shoelaces while you’re thinking about something completely different - because you’ve done it so many times that it’s become an automatic/habitual action - that’s how a well-trained marksman like Shane’s brain would treat actions like drawing, handling, and aiming a handgun.

I loved Bernthal’s hamminess in this show. Always seemed like Shane and Rick were battling it out for who can ham it up more when both are on screen. Regardless, both are incredible actors. Just looked like they had a lot of fun working together.

This was the best moment in the walking dead to me, just the sheer emotion and build between two people that were best friends, partners, driven to the edge by the constrictions of the new world that decays around them and who's remains in it. Both of them knowing it has to be this way

Bernthal gave an interview where he pitched an alternate ending to this episode. Where everything plays out the same way and Shane dies. But Rick watches walker Shane stand up, Rick grabs Shanes gun to put walker Shane down, and the gun just clicks empty. Then Carl puts him down like normal. I thought that would have been a much better ending to his character.

People forget, yes Shane didn’t think Rick had what it took to keep his family safe and alive, but Ultimately that was the excuse he used to try and convince others to be ok with getting rid of Rick. Shane’s real issues was Rick was taking everything thing he had come to feel was his, that he deserved more than Rick because of how he was taking care of them .. Lori and Carl and now the baby that he felt was his and now it was gonna be raised by Rick.. so it was way more than leading the group he viewed Rick as taking everything he felt he deserved. Which was actually Ricks Family.

What, why that?
@robertcuh7756
3 жыл бұрын
@@abraham2172 I kind of think that just because Shane was smart, he knew Rick would do anything to survive if it came down to it even if Shane thought Rick made stupid decisions he still knew he would still do what he had to, to survive. It also seemed like Shane had been really unhappy before this and maybe wanted to go out in the type of way someone does suicide by cop to maybe teach Rick a lesson of that he has to make the hard calls on killing people. Then at the end of the scene before Rick stabs Shane, Shane smirks before he is stabbed and that can be taken a couple ways probably but the way I saw it is Shane knew the knife was coming and knew he could survive by shooting Rick but instead lets Rick survive. Not saying this is what the writers intended but I like to look at it like that Shane cared for Rick so much he gave his life to him so Rick could become stronger in this world.

Their acting is incredible, specially Jon Bernthal. Its amazing how they get these little tiny expressions and quirks that depict their internal dialogue and mental/emotional states without even thinking about it. I mean, I know a fair amount of actors and actresses and they don't plan like "ok, so now I will slightly lift my eyebrows, I'll tense a bit the corner of my mouth", but instead they feel what the character feels and let the feeling take over their expressions and body language within the character's defined personality. Just amazingly done here.

This scene was hard to watch, even knowing Shane was a bad guy i still feel bad for his death, i was hoping that he would change, sometimes it felt like deep down he still loved Ricky and didn't want to hurt him, Jon Bernthal is a amazing actor.
