SHOTLIST
Mourners in Brazil lined up to pay their last respects to the slain UN envoy Sergio Vieira de Mello as a 24-hour wake was held for him in his native Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.
A square has been posthumously named after him and one of the mourners wrote in the condolences book that "South America's largest country had lost one of its favourite sons" - a sentiment echoed by many at the wake.
Family members wept as they said farewell to him, including his former nanny, his ex-wife and their sons as well as Sergio's mother and his sister.
His coffin draped in the Brazilian and UN flags was taken to the airport to be flown to Geneva.
His body is then expected to be taken to France, where he lived, for burial.
Vieira de Mello died on Tuesday in a suicide truck bombing attack at the UN headquarters in Baghdad.
At least 22 other people were killed in the blast, and more than 100 were injured.
The 55-year-old rising star in the United Nations had the world body's toughest job as envoy to Iraq, taking a leave of absence from his job as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to accept the four-month assignment in
Baghdad at the request of the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan.
