Body & Soul was a popular group in Central Pennsylvania in the mid-1980s. The local public television station, then WPSX, but now WPSU, invited the group to film a two-part program for broadcast in 1985 as part of a series titled "Welcome to Happy Valley," as the State College area was called. The vocalists - Diane McDaniel, Ruby Rogers, Dale Fortson - and bass player Larry Wilson - were from Mount Union, PA, home to a vibrant African American community. Vocalist Jerone Barnes was from Altoona. The instrumentalists - Geoff Marenchin, Jerry Zolten, Arthur Goldstein, and Richard Sleigh - were mainstays on the State College scene. The songs were classic soul and R&B covers with the exception of an original gospel tune, "Bye and Bye" written by Diane McDaniel and Jerone Barnes.
