I just have to say Bravo once again. Hindsight blah blah, the thing that gets overlooked is the airmanship this pilot maintains in a high stress atmosphere in a time or country where CRM isn’t strong yet. I think this is a near textbook way to react* to a situation that today, might not happen. You have tighter radars and regulations globally. From one Airman to another, Bravo guys you got her home.

When you can walk away from the flight, it was a good flight. When you can fly the plane the next day, it was a great flight. This was not perfect at all but they got the warning, made decisive and quick decisions, and got the plane up and out of the danger. The Captain seemed fatigued and frustrated, the FO seemed shocked, but the procedure of disengage auto pilot and auto throttle, pushing the throttle all the way forward, and focusing on altitude and climb first happened as it should. Continue the training and the teamwork but in the end, they did the basics correct when it was real life.

The captain was making the windshear go around (you keep the same config, flaps, gear down and just put max thrust) meanwhile the copilot was communicating with the atc about the go around so nothing wrong there. Actually the captain was just making the copilot aware about what he was doing, and not asking for the copilot to do it. Good: When F/O called go around, the captain reacted immediately and correctly with initial actions. Bad: F/O needed to be *right there* with the go-around checklist. Positive rate, gear up... It sounded like they continued straight on course into the shear... and a hail shaft at that... Best course of action if at all possible is _to not start the approach_ with a cell sitting between the FAF and the MAP. These things do move or dissipate reasonably quickly. Get holding instructions, call your company, and divert or hold until the storm passes. I've been confronted with nasty weather three times. Twice I diverted, and probably saved my tail. Once I had a brand new Stormscope... the cell to my left was all light and fluffy... and full of dots. The cell to my right was dark and foreboding... no dots on the Stormscope. "798, we'd like 30 right for weather." "798, deviate as requested." Twist, twist, 30 right. Into the belly of the beast. One small bump going in, a lot of rain, one small bump and I popped out and it was CAVU ahead of me. And frankly, if we'd had *just* radar? We'd have made the wrong choice; the one on the left wasn't raining yet, but was severe *updrafts* that probably would've spit us in pieces all over Mt. Mitchell. (The second time I deviated? I caught a look at Doppler radar after landing. 40NM west of Anniston to 40NM east of Hickory, *flashing evil magenta*. There was no Stormscoping that one. Not on a bet.)

@@giorgiocaperchi7858 you maintain the configuration during windshear escape manoeuvre for two reasons. Retracting the flaps increases the stall speed and retracting the gear eliminates any protection from ground contact. go around procedures are things that every pilot knows how to execute with no communication between them, and go around procedures for every runway pilots are gonna land on is always, ALWAYS done beforehand in their approach briefings, these things are done because windshear is something that happens very fast and there is no time to talk and do crew resource management, its something u react to, instantly, like the pilot did, and that's cause u are low and very slow on final approach, u have to be very quick to react, "Aviate, navigate communicate", there is a reason why "communicate" comes last. Is case of an aborted landing, both the Pilot Flying and Pilot Monitoring know exactly what to do, because it is discussed beforehand, way before they start their descent towards the airport.

The Autopilot disconnected warning in the Boeings is unacceptably loud and stressful. There should be two: this very one when the aircraft disengages the AP unexpectedly, and a much milder and quiter one when the pilot itself knowingly disengages it himself before every landing. Like this, it's overkill and much too noisy and stressful, needlessly. It may even mask other warnings. They went from 0 to 1000%! 🤬
@jimmybob562

It’s not supposed to be a nice sound. It’s supposed to be scary pilots are trained to handle the pressure of the alarms. This pilot knew exactly how serious the situation is and literally zoned in. He did it textbook style actually, no flap or gear change. The main priority is, get the engines at max TOGA power and climb immediately. The plane basically told the pilots they must go around or risk crashing, it’s unbelievably stressful and even simulations can’t fully simulate these things. One is a simulation and one is real life.
