Yes that is correct, the pressure on the main landing gear bring the speed break from Arm which is set on approach to full up and that is part of the sound. This electric motor that runs the handle then arms the hydraulics to bring the speed breaks up on the wings.

I think he touched down just after passing the TDZ or just catched the last mark in the TDZ. The nose wheel touched down after reaching the markings on the other end of the RW, and at the threshold (piano keys) of the other end of the RW the speed was around 60 knots (may be it was a short RW for the B 747). Any how it was a smooth greased landing and i bet none of the passengers felt anything :)

The only thing that I can see that might be regarded as a mistake (if any mistake does exist), is that I think that they put on the reverse thrusters before the nose gear was down. Of course, this might be normal...

That's corrrect. You can hear Paul Havis in the jump seat at 2:20 saying, "Wind shear alert...but that is over now." or something like that. I still have the original VHS tape from which this footage was taken - A 747 Pilot's Eye View. I recently had it burned to DVD so that I could continue watching it. I too hope that they finished well. I recall that Havis continued producing video material. At one point he had a cable show called Great Air Routes of the World.

the average age of a commercial pilot is 22? ...pff, no way in hell is that true, lol. You must be 23 years of age or older to hold an ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) certificate.. and an ATP is required to act as the captain of a commercial airliner. Besides.. at 22 you'd barely have the hours required for an entry-level first officer job, and even that's a stretch... [Awesome Video, btw =D]

The noise you are hearing at 2:35 is the speedbrake (spoilers). At the beginning of the video while cunducting their landing checklist the Captain was inquired about speedbrake and confirmed it was armed. (set on auto) Tbone is dead wrong with respect to gear struts compressing! The nose gear had not even touched yet and nobody would hear gear struts compressing 200ft behind them at 145-170 knots. Idiots on here.

Michael Loder You are incorrect. They actually had 11 747’s in their fleet. 3 of them were 747-100’s and the remaining 8 were -200’s. And their name wasn’t “People Airlines”...it was PeoplExpress ;-)
