On June 25, 1965 a Boeing C-135A Stratolifter #60-373 assigned to the Material Air Transport Service departed Marine Corps Air Station El Toro at 1:44 a.m. bound for Viet Nam via Hawaii, and Okinawa. At 1:46 a.m. the Stratolifter collided with Loma Ridge, instantly killing all seventy-two Marines, and twelve Air Force servicemen on board.
