is the system validating the paint thickness and making automated adjustments on the fly? I would like to see more of the cutting edge technology used by Boeing and maybe some day become and employee.

I don't cry so easy, but painters, what they suppose to do, and pay home bills? For me, you're the greatest aicraft builder in the WORLD, better than any other. Computers are taking jobs, and will take yours too! Please, put the painters back to work, and show that aircarft has all tecnology in the world, and that is why we paint them by proffesional painters, the best aircraft, the best painters in the world!

A sign of the new times: if you want a middle class decent paying job, you need to learn computers and a lot of math, and not just a highschool diploma. Can't blame boing for the changing world.

I love that no one is exposed to harmful fumes etc. I guess we should all be investing in robotics...like right now! The cost of an industrial robot is 25,000. and up. It is suggested that many of us will own one and do production f small parts at home.....sounds good to me.

It's funny that back in the fifties when the first computers were created we thought that in the future the robots would free the mankind from the labor and start a new age of knowledge and happiness, but now they are used to make people unemployed and give more money to the people who already have it a lot. I am not judging or anything like that, just thought that it is funny how naive we were back in the day.

No I blame our government and Steve Jobs. They could have built computers in Kentucky or Appalachians or West Virginia, Tennessee where they closed down the textile factories etc.

All the painters will need to learn new skills, how is this different than the last industrial revolution? What happens to the horse cartage builder when cars started being built in mass and cheaply? A few hold the niche market, a few build special order car body, more than most learn something new and do something else instead. If you already know robot and computer is going to take your job, then make sure you're not stuck in that job

It so great that 40 more hard working Boeing employee lost their jobs!!! I understand progress and needing to be profitable, but I hate to see a smaller work force being talked about in a positive way.

One skilled automation worker can replace the work of 10+ painters using robots. So, if is good for business but not for people and replace human by robots will generate unemployment for sure. I work as an automation engineer for 10 years and witness all that happen. Corporations are always looking into better ways to cut costs and when they are faced with bigger cuts they move it to China. Sad but true and unavoidable trend in todays greed world.

Well see here you have got it all mixed up. The real deal is this and you already know but I will run it down for you. What it is taking 40 people to do, ten years ago it took 25, ten years before that it took 15 and so on. To top it all off those people from years ago did a job more reflective of what the robots are doing today instead of something you would see at the local auto body shop.
