John Deacon is one of the greatest bassists in R&R and hardly anyone knows who he is. This should not be the case. John is brilliant! Listen to the bass in "You're My Best Friend," he's shining brightly there.

I was a little insulted in the movie when Freddie threatened to replace John Deacon as if saying he was just another run of the mill bass player with a washed up future without the rest of the band. John has proven ability to capture the moods of ballads with perfected melodic gestures like non other. He possesses the ability to produce songs that were number 1 hits as well. He remained a strong force behind queen's very genuine masterful songwritings throughout their career.

I honestly feel like most people that claim John is good are just saying it because they are Queen fanatics and they immediately classify him as good because of that. I used to all the time, because I was like that, but I took a break from Queen for about a year and a half- two years and now I’m back, and after listening to a very diverse catalog of music and learning the bass in that period, I can definitely say that he is definitely a rock solid bass player and perfectly suits the group, definitely one of the greats.
@samlorenzo2389

Same! I’m not saying that John Deacon is bad, in fact he’s really good. I used to always think he was number 1 of all time. When I took a break from queen I went on to LZ and discovered John Paul Jones who is my favorite bassist currently. And then I went on to discover monsters like Entwistle and Geddy Lee.

There are three takes of the song ( as said on the "Making Of A Night At The Opera" DVD, ( I also heard the different takes from the 24 tracks master tape), 1: Soundborad sound, Room Sound and Microphoned Bass amp sound. The tone depends on how you do the final mix. This was not the real sound that was achieved on the final mix.

Interesting! I would say that this is mainly the DI'd bass and Hiwatt amp. Although you can hear other instruments (notably the drums) it sounds a bit too dry to have the miked up bass cab in the mix. It doesn't sound ambient enough to have the miked up cab and it sounds a little too defined. The bass was indeed recorded via 3 channels which were 1) the dry bass directly into the desk 2) the Hiwatt amp directly into the desk and 3) the Hiwatt amp and speaker miked up. Whatever mix it is, it's bloody good!

There's so much bleed through because bass and drums were done on one track when it was originally recorded
@frostmusicofficial
4 жыл бұрын
No it’s because they played it together. They had 24 tracks to record it and yes for most of the opera section vocal tracks were bounced to one but there’s no bleed through on those. They recorded drums, piano, and bass all at the same time in the same room.

There are 3 tracks to make the bass sound deem 'fuller'. Just like there are 11 vocal tracks (13 if you count the vocals on the rhythm guitar tracks), there are 3 bass tracks: 1. Directly from the sound console. 2. From a microphone positioned near/next to the amplifier. 3. From a microphone somewhere in the room.
