I have been searching through the internet for a long time. And now I finally got the answer. Pity the school doesn't provide us with this basics. It would be so helpful if you upload a video on the difference between gas and vapor.

still doesn`t explain the mechanism of why in evaporation lets say water at 40 C 1 atm, we know water boils at 100 C at 1 atm but why can evaporation converts the surface water molecules at only 40 C, does the presure drops at the surface?

This is very helpful. I'm not an expert, but something else comes to mind, which is kind of a branch of the last point, about the thermal energy coming from surroundings. I'm going to steer this toward evaporative cooling, which is how sweating helps us not poach our own muscles to death when doing an exertion-bean-thing. Because intuitively it seems so mysterious but it makes sense if you break it down. In any kind of a thing, but most interestingly for this discussion we'll say a liquid, there are molecules of the stuff all zipping about in different trajectories at different speeds. Temperature is kind of an "average" of the activity. There are things going faster and there are things going slower. Since it's an average, if the faster things leave the whole thing and never come back, the result is that the average measurement is a little slower. Slower is colder. That's evaporative cooling. If temperature is a head count, and the hotter heads leave because of evaporation, the final count is lower. A reduction in temperature.

Thanks, David! I'm trying to do these types of videos more often. I'd say I spend an hour researching they types of questions and confusions people have about the topic and then about two hours to record and edit.

It's interesting. I'd say about 80% of are "thanks for helping" type comment. Of the other 20% I'd say 15% are fairly simple questions and often I can direct them to a video I've already done. But the last 5% take some thought. In the past 24hr I've gotten 54 comments (I just counted) but it's a very slow time of the year!

Ok but boiling is a still just a more rapid form of evaporation right? So all boiling is evaporation but not all evaporation os boiling correct?
@wbreslyn
Ай бұрын
Yes, boiling is a rapid form of evaporation occurring at a specific temperature throughout the liquid, while evaporation happens more slowly at the surface and can occur at any temperature, so all boiling involves evaporation, but not all evaporation involves boiling.

Sir, how do you explain temperature drop while boiling in vacuum?

Evaporation is a cooling process. Lower pressure means increased rate of evap.

@@wbreslyn I understand all this Sir, but why is temperature not constant during boiling in vacuum?
@wbreslyn
3 жыл бұрын
@@deeperloveforphysics9513 So when the water evaporates, the more energetic water molecules are leaving the liquid. That lowers the temperature of the water since the overall kinetic energy is lower. You might like this video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/op1q0oCLkX2mhoI
