DS9 was terrible as well. They would take Sisko, Dax, O'Brian, Bashir, Worf and then depending on what they were doing a bunch of non-starfleet characters like Kira, who shouldn't be doing anything with Starfleet unless it directly related to Bajor, Garak or Odo. There was also an episode of TNG where Picard was gone, Riker took over then went down to a planet, got captured with Worf & Geordi then Data & Troi also go down to the planet, with Crusher entirely absent from the episode. This episode taught me one major thing about Star Trek..... IN EVERY OTHER SERIES THEY DON'T TALK LIKE PEOPLE! Everything every word, every single measure of communication is measured and precise and proper and dignified, and PEOPLE DON'T TALK LIKE THAT. And it was so PERFECTLY exemplified in Boimler trying to talk, the stuttering and rambling, and then PIke would respond to him as if addressing a formal fucking hearing to Starfleet Command, they don't just... chat, even in casual settings, TNG, DS9, Voyager, OS, everything! They don't ramble and talk over each other, and banter like fucking PEOPLE. It's like Polite Society completely overwrote all 'casual' interaction in the Star Trek Universe. and then Lower Decks arrives and holy shit, they just go at it and it just didn't HIT me until I seen this episode. :P

Honestly this should have been a Lower deck episode. The same episode you mind, no change, just put on a different show. Imagen the surprise. A clever trailer only hinting on time travel and then the reveal when you saw it for the very first time. I understand why they did what they did, but the surprise and reveal would have been bigger I think.
