I have been casually training dogs since 2001 and now have been doing it professionally for a month. Yesterday I had 2 appointments, each with a pair of dogs that were aggressive with guests, the second one extreme. I mention this channel on most appointments. The first pair of dogs had owners that watch all of Joel's videos. They just needed me to show them the methods working to believe for themselves. So far 80% of my sessions are one and done. Issues gone. I owe this channel most of the credit for working what looks like miracles with all these dogs. I'm just thrilled every time I see a dog free itself from it's own mental torture. Thanks a million!

My 5 month old pup was so interested in today’s video. Sat almost underneath the Tv to watch. She’s fascinated by the dogs movement of course but I also think she was picking up on familiar training words like Leave it. It was funny to watch. Maybe if she watches enough she’ll train herself!!!!! LOL 😆

I started your techniques pretty early (maybe a little too early) when my pup was 5 months. His crazy fixation on dogs was driving me mental on our walks and the combo of corrections and a gentle leader has made life so much better. He's similar to this dog where all he wants to do is play with other dogs and forget where I am, and then he also charges in head first, and plays rough(er than I'd like). It's so slow going, but he's improving with age + training every day.

Considering how bad the reactivity was at the beginning she did really well. Explaining the focus staying on the handler was the key for me, even though allowed to meet dogs. My dog can just forget I’m there.

@@cretudavid8622 it's not bribing, it's redirection and then rewarding which works most of the time. If you don't have treats obviously mean what you say and follow through without being angry. Don't let your dog pull you to another dog

I have a small short snouted dog that is just like that, runs up and is cocky and rude. I keep him on leash now because I have done corrections like this so. many. times. but it has barely made a dent in how he is on leash. 😔 Our other pup is nothing like him and can be off leash. He listens quite well otherwise and with some dogs it has definitely worked, but he has a few he hates in the area and I have almost given up. 😓

Will this work for my female 50 lb pit barking and chasing our cat? She is a rescue and she is good with dogs and people but have to keep her on leash any time the cat is near. She is friendly but demanding and bit stubborn. A little slow on catching on to commands.

Please describe the difference in the use of a leash and the gentile leader...its effects..tks again for another great video...
@Flippokid

Gentle leader turns their entire head. This gives you full control over its motion. You can see it with his first correction, she's immediately turned 180 degrees. It also doesn't risk damaging the windpipe like regular collars, but others claim it can do damage to the neck. Normal collar is more comfortable for the dog, and the correction has less impact.
@twilightmarichat1854

That's only if it's not a proper fit. Around the muzzke, it should be tight enough that the dog can't paw it off but loose enough that the dog can do a full pant. One finger under the muzzle part of the gentle leader is my go to rule

did this dog already know what "Leave it" means? I was under the impression... you should not give corrections after a training command (Leave it...then leash pop if not expected behavior). Using a correction word like the word "No" then correction(leash pop) is the way i thought it should be done when an undesired behavior is occurring. Training commands should only be given for wanted behavior(without a correction). This would mean the the dog already understands what leave it means. thoughts please?
