My Polish grandparents used to take me mushroom picking in the 'Quantocks' in Somerset and we'd return with several kilos of edible 'boletus edulis' which they'd dry slowly in the oven overnight and store in jars, they were so abundant back then (in the early seventies) but now they're like gold-dust and cost an absolute fortune to buy! I can still 'taste' the delicious soups and beef stews they'd flavour with these wonderful mushrooms. The ones we'd pick had reddish-brown caps with yellow 'spongey' undersides and white/cream stalks.

I wish you'd shown the mushrooms up close and talked about their identification in more detail.

I love this guy! "you pray it's edible" "you boil it 25 times and throw the water out to make it edible" I'm new to all of this, and although I've picked quite a few, I haven't yet eaten a wild mushroom. I wish I had a local club.

Edible seems to mean something different when it comes to wild mushrooms. To me, not being edible means it's poisonous. But in Wild Mushroom context it could simply mean it's bitter tasting. Well, while Bitter and it may not taste great, it still sounds edible, especially if you're in a survival situation. So Tastes Good vs Edible needs to be sorted out.

I thought if a mushroom stains blue that means it is a special mushroom that will take you on an adventure

thanks but holding these up for a careful view would help us ID these on our own. You show them quickly from a distance and there is no clear view of the mushroom. Looks like a pirate video and not made for education. Wow, so interesting an expert is mystified by many examples. No wonder its hard to ID many mushrooms! Incredible variety. Great general information!
