And Maybe don't put 30lbs of pressure on the bit. I have used bits for years and never seen wear in mine. Now, I also tend towards stainless.

Oh that makes sense to why the bits break. The brass components. We were taught in the UK never to use brass on tack, but I didn't realize some bits used that. You'd have to really be aware of that in the bit and watch it like a hawk. I've used sweet iron before and honestly my horses love that metal thee best. We need more dressage bits made of that, second was German silver, but idk if that had brass in it and I have steel bits, but I don't personally feel my horses have liked them, I suspect cause the metal has no real flavor and they seem rather cold. Their mouths just don't get as soft or wet with them. I do disagree with the bomber lady that we r not taught to check our tack. That was drilled into me in the uk under the limited bhs training I had and I've had trainers check clients tack before they ever got on and of course we have saddle fitters checking our tack and we r constantly told to do that every so often with a huge emphasis on billets and the tree.

German silver is a brass alloy. If you notice the pictures they use are not broken because of the brass, they are broken because the check isn't welded onto the mouthpiece. It simply bent and the peg popped out. Either way, brass contortion or stainless steel bending means you don't deserve to even look at horses. Those poor horses

I have always used only stainless steel. One of my riding instructors, years ago, gave me a stainless steel fulmer snaffle to try on my sister's horse. It looked brand spanking new. He'd had it for years! I also had it for years, and it still looked new. Every time I cleaned my tack, I always checked every last piece - buckles on bridles, stirrup leathers, girths, and also the stitching. It's a habit every rider should get into! Did I mention I cleaned my tack after every ride? If you don't keep on top of it, you won't know something is about to give out. Just because something is new, it doesn't mean it can't have a flaw, either. How many airplanes have gone down because of a worn or defective piece of metal?

I think metal fatigue can happen to any bit. I had a stubben snaffle bit break on a young horse I was training. As soon as it broke she took off and had to bail 😅

If you still have the bit, take a picture of it. Then contact a Stubben retailer or sales rep. They may replace it. I've used Stubben bits for 50 years, and none ever "broke".

Because it is cheap material made in China. I've got bridles for 30 years that are not broken. Yes and new ones . Buy quality. Check what metal is really used
