I’ve been waiting for someone to give an on the water review of the SKF; thank you! I don’t fish, but have been looking for a SOT with a good seat because I’ve had back surgery and an open deck because I like to paddle with my dogs. This looks perfect for exploring the tributaries of North Texas lakes. I really appreciate your content!

@@thebeardedpaddler also I was watching the video again and noticed the lack of foot pegs just before you mentioned it. It was rather shocking to see a boat like this without footpegs. Im considering this as a scouting boat (if I can get past my disdain for bonafide and any other manufacturer with their bs capacity with the boat weight subtracted from it) and need a boat I can scoot over semi submerged trees. Im worried the lack of foot pegs could make this difficult. Not to mention just general handling.

First let me say thank you for posting this. Been waiting since I saw this for a review. I’m new to kayaking and live in San Diego. Wish we had some shops like yours here. Trying to decide between Liquid logic Kiawah 12 and Bonafide Skf 117. You are the only person who has talked about both. I’m not looking for a fishing kayak. Need something that’ll keep up with paddle boards in the bay, lakes and off shore. Would like to try some class 1 rivers eventually. I maybe asking for to much from one kayak. Thank you any advice you can pass on to me in advance. Right now I’m in a Costco inflatable. Wanted to see if I’d enjoy it. You, Headwaters Kayak and Paddle TV. Are my top three. Sorry for rambling on.

I can’t wait until someone does a comparison between this and the crescent SUP+ So far from what I can get through videos is the crescent is the better paddler, but sacrifices in physical depth of the cockpit and is a little harder to rig for foot steering. I’m hoping with the introduction of this, people realize a SUP+ hybrid platform is heavily underutilized as a throw and go option.

Andy, found your channel, watched a bunch of your videos. Very helpful! Wondering if you could help me, I’m looking for a fly fishing friendly kayak. Will mostly use in the creeks and inlets of the Carolina coast, but also on rivers and lakes of the Carolinas fishing for smallies. I am down to the following models: NuCanoe: Pursuit and Unlimited Jackson Kayak: YuPik and Coosa X (really wish they still made the mayfly) Bonafide: SKF, RVR, SS127 I may put a motor on it one day but it needs to be a good paddling kayak. Something that can battle the tides, winds and currents. To properly fly fish, I need to be able to stand. So that’s key. As is having a clean deck area (pedal drives are magnets for fly lines). I will also throw a a yeti cooler in the back for overnights river fishing. I have dry bags so I don’t need a hatch (bonus points for NuCanoe, Yupik, SKF, RVR) though I guess a hatch can’t hurt for day trips I’m in decent shape, 5’11” 170lbs.

So I got to demo this today. I sat down in it in the store and IMMEDIATELY was reminded why i HATE bonafide seats. They HURT. I'm a 46" waist and i sit on the side rails of the seat instantly causing pain. I put a kayak kushion on it which helped a little but not all the way. Its one of the WORST seats out there and not suitable for larger guys. I'm 6'2 275 lbs and 46" waist. Figured ok I'll try it on the water still. I kept the kushion on and went. This thing PLOWS the water. The nose is way too low and the boat is out of trim. No way to trim the boat with the seat position as its fixed. I dont get why bonafide does this. Someone else mentioned how low in the water the nose was and how they hated it and returned the boat. Yep I saw the same thing. I'd have to put a fair amount of weight in the back to balance it. My bite paddled better and faster in the same water. No stand up strap which is a disappointment and no place to install one. youd have to pay for a track eyelet and use the center track or attach a longer one to the handle. Worse yet why no footpegs? They are charging $1249 for this boat and they want you to pay another $35 for an aftermarket footpeg kit? Thats ABSURD as footpegs are essential. stability was ok but I feel my jackson bite was equal to slightly better. I went to the store expecting to purchase this boat to replace my Jackson bite because I needed something I could stand up easier in. Instead I realized what a TERRIBLE boat this is, how terrible the bonafide seats are as they need a complete redesign for average to larger paddlers. If they made the seat wider and put the attaching portions under the seat vs outboard of it then it would solve the problem. The final and most critical and DANGEROUS is how bonafide flat LIES about their capacity. Capacity is what you put into the boat PERIOD. Bonafide is going to get someone killed because they demand the boats weight be subtracted from the capacity rating. This makes no sense. you dont buy a half ton pickup and subtract the vehicles weight from the capacity. If you did you wouldnt be able to put any people in it. Bonafide will get someone killed soon because of this.
@thebeardedpaddler
2 ай бұрын
I get it about the seat, the straps sometime need to be tightened on the seats to prevent sagging and pressure points on the hips. To say they "lie" or are "dishonest" about their weight capacity is a bit much. Every company seems to figure it differently, which I'm not a big fan of, but it is what it is.

@@thebeardedpaddler its clearly lieing and being dishonest about it. They are deceiving people and were even worse before they put the tiny disclaimers on theri website. @MysticalDragon73
2 ай бұрын
@@chrisbahl6649 the outlaw is NOT a similar boat to the skf. The outlaw is a borderline pool toy. The plastic is thinner, its not as durable, has a fixed position seat. The worst part is that absurd tri hull design with the notch running horizontally near the nose. unless you are on lakes with depth it catches on EVERYTHING. shallow rivers you get caught on it all the time, not to mention when you are going over trees or rocks. Ive seen people going through rapids and swim or get stuck on a rock because of the hull design. The paddling characteristics are terrible too. When they were 600-700 you could kinda argue it was decent at that price. But now with the price increases there are soooo many better options. I even commented on a local store having one and she said the only reason she does is for those who buy a box store boat and realize they suck and they want something a little better but wont spend more on a proper boat. Yet she even agrees with the price increases there are better options. Want a great boat at the similar price? Look at the Jackson Bite. It surpasses the outlaw in every way. Our crew scouts rivers for hazards. The company has a few outlaws because thats what they could get at the time. However EVERYONE that uses the outlaws hates it for the same reason. They use my bite and they love it. Our COO even agreed that if they could sell the outlaws they will and replace them with a more capable boat like the bite.
