We moved into our house 5 years ago this tree was here when we bought the house, we were told that this tree was a almond tree so for the past 5 years that is what I thought. Till 5 weeks ago the fruit turned orange/red for the 1st time in 5 years. this year I smelt the fruit and it smelt like a peach. And thanks to this video I now know I have a bonfire peach tree. It has always been such a beautiful tree but we have never done anything with it other than trimming its limbs over grow into the walkway. Maybe next year I will spray it and see if I can taste the fruit. We have always just let nature do its thing. Thanks for sharing this and helping me know what my tree is.

Thank you😊 What an exciting discovery! I’m sure it was quite the surprise to smell a peachy scent. It is so challenging figuring out what things are when you just suddenly own them with a purchase of a home. We purchased this property a couple of years ago and there are still trees, flowers, and shrubs I am trying to figure out🙃.

I'm so happy to find this information! You are very fortunate to inherit all these lovely trees! I too bought a new home last year and inherited two of these trees! There isn't a lot of information out there about them. I missed the beautiful Bloom time, but I guess I will get that next Spring! When I moved in they were huge with big purple leaves and they produce a lot of fruit! I did find the fruit to be bitter for my taste, but completely edible, and like someone else here said it would be best for baking or canning. In my limited experience I do not believe these peaches will ever get soft like the traditional peach trees, mine remained firm up until the very end. I'm still trying to figure out how to prune this correctly, but like I said not much information out there. Definitely different from a traditional Peach tree! I really appreciate everyone's input about their experience with this unique and interesting plant!

I have a mini bonanza peach tree and it blooms so vigorously and produces so many peaches that it must be thinned after the fruit begins to swell. This helps the fruit grow bigger, more flavor and also keeps the branches from breaking because of weight. It definitely is quality over quantity in a mini peach.

Thanks for sharing! I've seen some videos of people that have dwarf peach trees like yours and what I've seen is that they take off from the tree several peaches so the tree can thrive. It gives the chance to the remaining peaches to grow and have the chance to be big. They all compete with each other so taking some off gives the chance to the other.

Thank you for sharing that with me! I think I am going to experiment with that this year. My dad mentioned it to me as a possible idea too😊. My plan is to use the two trees right beside each other. I am going to leave one as is and remove peaches from the other, so I can have a comparison.

I just purchased one and noticed on the tag "inedible" fruit. I started more research and most articles say the fruit from these trees are not good for eating but do better if you are canning them. I may take it back because what is the point of having a fruit tree if you can't eat the fruit? I'd be happy if someone said "I eat them all the time". Thanks for taking the time to show us your tree. Update: I've been told by local nursery that the fruit is perfectly fine to eat. So I guess it is up to the gardener as to whether the fruit is tasty or not. Most everything now must be taken with a grain of salt.

@@bettyboop1524 Very interesting! Thank you for sharing that information! It is a beautiful bloom but I tend to agree with you…what’s the point? The height it grows to makes it difficult to mow around, so if I was buying a tree for the bloom alone I personally would want something that grows a little taller.

We are in Western New York near Lake Ontario. How do you protect the trees for winter and do you fertilize in the spring or fall? Thanks for your video.
@mamashalldo

I have not protected the trees or fertilized them. I don’t have quite the winter you would have. I’m in zone 5B We do have some pretty good wind gusts. Even so I have only had wind damage when the tree is very heavy with fruit maybe that is because it is so compact. As far as fertilizer, this is the first year I have given that any thought with any of my fruit trees. I purchased my home a couple years ago and it came with many deflected fruit trees…it’s been a learning curve ever since but I think I’m slowly figuring it out😊

I’m not sure about a container size. Mine are planted in the ground. I can tell you that my soul has a lot of clay in it and it is also very rocky. Your Patio Peaches would grow to a larger size if you thinned the fruit. Wait for after a drop before thinning just to make sure you'll get some fruit. When thinning try to pick off fruit to provide a 4-5inch space around each fruit. You'll see larger fruit that way. When leaving all that fruit on the tree, it's difficult for the tree itself to support that many because it only has so much energy and nutrition to pump out to them and fruit will only grow to the limits of it's space. So try "thinning" fruit next season.

@@mamashalldo Yes! I thin my apples, plums and peaches. And if the apricot tree goes crazy I thin that as well. You'll see the difference in the size and quality of fruit. Make sure to snip the middle of the stem and not rip off the branch. That way the piece of stem left will rot off naturally and you won't be damaging the branch which could open the door to disease or pests... Give us an update this fall on how it turned out for you.
