Thank you for sharing this with us all!! I quite enjoy the dance of the four Buddhist monks in white. They are so graceful! (And they dance a dance I could conceivably learn!) But the other monks and their colors are wonderful, too!

I am doing a discussion for one of my college classes on folk dances. I chose talchum because I have always found mask dances very unique. I was wondering if you could tell me what the instruments as performance are. Thank you if you can and happen to see this!

Hello! There are three different types of instrumental accompaniment. Remember, talchum is colloquially used by Koreans to mean all mask dance dramas, but technically it only means dances from Hwanghae Province (DPRK), while sandae are dances from the Seoul Area, ogwangdae & yayu are from the south coast, and then we have three that are different. So the talchum and sandae dramas (nationally registered 5 dramas) use an accompaniment called 'samhyeon yukgak' which is a small dance music ensemble including janggu and buk drums, 2 piri, haegeum, and daegeum. Whereas all other mask dance dramas except Bukcheong Saja Noleum use a pungmul ensemble (janggu, buk, ggwaenggwari, jing, and taepyeongso). Bukcheong Saja Noleum uses buk, and tungso, primarily.

Um... I copy and paste my last comment.😂 Hello! My english is not so good, so please understand :). this is Korea's traditional show, "Bongsan Talchum(봉산탈춤)". Bongsan(봉산) is location name where the show is originated. "Tal(탈)" means "mask", and "Chum(춤)" means "Dance" in Korean. so it can be translated as "Bongsan mask dance(or show)". The compound word, "Talchum(탈춤)" is one of the Famous form of common people culture in late Joseon dynasty. it's main subject matters were a satire on currupted ruling class, especially Yangban(양반), the noble class of Joseon dynasty. The performers are not fixed. Only masks represent characters of show. It is not gorgeous in comparison with the aristocratic culture, but it is like a cultural heritage because it is high value as a common culture of the late Joseon Dynasty. In addition to Bongsan masks, the most famous Korean masks are "Hahoe masks(하회탈:Hahoe tal)". the representative mask of Hahoe masks is Yangban mask. you can see the Yangban mask in video as a background(the smiling face mask)

@@asadar6332 There are some problems here where your English actually gives the wrong impression. Thank you for trying hard to explain about Bongsan Talchum. 하지만 너무 피상적인 답장 보다 더욱 확실하게 공부하면 좋겠어요.

Hi Jayho, what sort of project is it? I'd appreciate if you use with credit to me/my channel, since I shot it myself. However, this is not a private moment, it's a public performance of a group I care a lot about. If you use it and further let people know how amazing Bongsan Talchum is, I'll be glad. If you intend to use it in anyway that would reflect negatively on the group/ Korean traditional performance I would *not* be okay with that.
