I just love this community and how it has helped me to overcome the loss of my wife to cancer. Thank you :)

This was the last of the previous uploads BUT I have sorted out a 'short term' fix until I can get it picked up under warranty. So there are loads of videos to come...including the Tony's Bonsai Anniversary Special.

I am SOO glad you did a video featuring both Hawthorns and Hornbeams because I'm constantly switching their names around and/or when I get the wrong one in my mind I can't remember the name of the other one. This helps!

An easy way to identify them is to run your fingers down the shoot...perhaps not a good idea :)

Always a pleasure Sharon - I do loads like this and most never make it to bonsai stage...but occasionally you create a gem :)

Once you reach a certain age, you need a plan on how to get back up from the floor...😂😂

I've lost count how many times I've called my Hornbeam a Hawthorn. It's worse for me - I haven't got any Hawthorn !

Much easier in German language. Because Hainbuche (hornbeam) sounds completely different than Weissdorn (hawthorn) 😄 Cheers 🙋♀️

So much great stock and potential! Some really nice gems popping out. Appreciate all the info on handling English hawthorns. My journey with them is just starting, so lots of learning to be had.

I found the apple cedar rust is mostly unsightly on hawthorn. It’s far more of an issue on juniper and more destructive but fortunately only certain species of juniper - the sort that are slower and less suited to bonsai anyway.

As you know - I have that less desirable species in spades :)

@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat😂 Fortunately for me the Chinese juniper itoigawa, shimpaku etc seem ok. My problem with those is they just don’t seem to out any growth in my garden.

That tree at 12:00 I would personally have been tempted to leave the longest branch to continue to grow upwards for the moment, and cut back the other one significantly, and wired it more towards the horizontal to avoid the danger of developing a V shaped or catapult tree.
