We've added some images from another Amos Emery-designed building, the beautiful Unitarian Church. Here is a quote from the Des Moines Tribune, August 6, 1977: "The present building, designed by the late architect Amos Emery, a member of the church, was occupied in 1957 and blends into its tree-laden surroundings.
“This simple and dignified building, with its graceful lines, makes excellent use of the terrain around it,” said Leonard Wolfe, head of ISU’s Department of Architecture, in 1961. “It says, unlike he usually does, man has been here and has respected the site. In a sense that may describe the Unitarian Universalist’s views of the human scene He may not be concerned about whether there is or isn’t a God, but he has a deep concerns about the “site,” about the daily life of humanity and what can be done to make it better.”
