In the book "Bokken: The Sword in Aikido: Kihon Aikiken. Volume I" are presented the basics of the art of wielding a sword in Aikido - one of the four integral departments of Aikido. The book has two thematic blocks. The first one describes the historical background of the Japanese warrior and katana (chapters: 1-5):
* social and military conditions that for centuries shaped the art of the sword,
* information on the Japanese warrior and katana sword,
facts from the life of master Morihei Ueshiba and the profiles of his students.
The second thematic block is devoted to the technical basis of aikiken (chapters 6-9). From this part, the reader will learn what is necessary for mastering the skill of wielding bokken.
In addition, the book contains a lot of illustrations (over 400) and an extensive dictionary of Japanese words (over 700 terms) found in budo, along with their record in kanji.
