"Just because something is old doesn't mean it's valuable." Thank you for clarifying that. I work as a coin dealer. I've been collecting for most of my life, and most people seem to think that, for example, bronze coins minted during the late Roman Empire must be valuable because they're thousands of years old. But we have a bucket of them; they're extremely common. When I started collecting books, I found out about this very quickly too.

Great information with lots of detail. As a collector of vintage/antique childrens' books, this is very helpful information. Thanks!

Jess, thank you so much for these helpful tips. So many of the things you mentioned will be so valuable going forward, I can tell, specifically things like putting in keyword rather than checking those boxes. Search engines can be oddly twitchy.

I have yet another book for you to add to your bookish books collection. The echo of old books by Barbara Davis. So main character Ashlyn Greer is a rare books seller and book binder who can feel the echos of emotions people who have owned books had. She finds these two mysterious books that have never been published and the emotional echos match the stories inside of two lovers in a tragic romance. Trying to solve the mystery Ashlyn deals with her own demons and finds love as we the audience get to read along with her. I would consider listening to it in audiobook format simply because chapters from the mystery books are in italics and could be hard to read if you have dyslexia.

Ooh, that sounds similar to a book I’m writing actually! But mine is a children’s book. I definitely need to check that out. Is it on Audible? Thanks for all the great recommendations.

@@iwannareadforever8185 I've got a few in the works that are staying secret until they develop more, but this one I mentioned involves two kids and a bookshop with a special secret. ;)

Hi again Jess! So I've been using bookfinder over the last week to search for books, and I just wondered, have you had good experiences with Alibris? Any feedback on them? 💚

Hi! Alibris is just another selling platform, like AbeBooks or Amazon. My shop sells on Alibris and I have bought from Alibris a few times personally. Nothing wrong with it in my experience. Hope that helps!

@@SquirrellyNerdyJess Thank you! That will help for the future. It's 3am in Australia and I have just purchased a first edition copy of The Waves by Virginia Woolf (my favourite book), published by The Hogarth Press (which was Virginia and husband Leonards publishing company they set up, with the press in their basement where they bound books themselves). The copy I got was Barbara Howes copy, a poet that I enjoy, with her signature in the back. BH's signature that is, not VW's signature - that would cost thousands! Anyway, I've been wanting a hogarth press first edition copy of The Waves for 20 years and now, as long as it doesn't get lost or destroyed in the mail, I'll finally have one. This copy had a much more faded spine than some of the other ones available (the title/author on the spine barely legible from the photo), but I thought that it being previously owned by another author I like was an interesting touch. Just had to share my nocturnal nerdy moment :)
