Just to add on as to why Pineapples symbolise wealth: Pineapples are a tropical fruit and represent access to the colonies where the warmer weather allowed for pineapples to be successfully harvested. Therefore, only those in higher class families could afford to buy pineapples or to garner pineapples from offshore plantations. Having pineapples in meals, as decorations and even on wallpaper (green wallpaper pineapple motifs were loaded with arsenic) was a manner of representing wealth, power and control over one's house and colonial investments. Quite a loaded history behind the popular fruit symbol. I'm not sure if its related but I also remember hearing that having a pineapple symbol carved into a door symbolised swingers and/or party culture.

@@lucyromanoff654 the arsenic created vibrant colour greens (like emerald) and eventually it was used in Other colours like yellow to made them more vibrant and have a variety of shades. However, doctors discovered it could kill. The ink would often flack off & the people in the home would inhale it if nearby. HI Jack! I am coming here with a book recommendation that I don't know if you have read. It's called "Witch light" by Susan Fletcher. It also goes by "Corrag". I borrowed it from my local British council library here is India and it was simply stunning. I have never read a book that is THAT picturesque since then. I wanted to own a copy so i looked high and low for a copy I can afford but apparently it's so underrated, it's not even available in inida. But since it is by a British author, you might have more luck.It is basically about an alleged witch called Corrag who escapes her village after her mother is captured on the allegations of witchcraft as well. She runs off to the Scottish highlands where she is still pursued by authorities. She survives in nature and finally tries to assimilate into a highlandic (is that correct?) time when tragedy strikes. It's absolutely stunning and heartbreaking and I think is exactly the kind of book you would love. I think it needs WAY more love than it gets. Hope you see this and hope you enjoy! Love from India!

Just to add to how insanely I have been affected by this book. It has been 8 years since I last read it. I have wanted to read it again since then but couldn't because couldn't buy a copy. And I am still trying to recommend this lol.

Pineapple street is a real place in Brooklyn Heights, where the book is set (and where the author lives). It's an incredibly wealthy neighborhood, with some of the most beautiful brownstones in the city, architecture that is symbolic of wealth in New York - on the tree lined streets of Brooklyn's wealthiest neighborhoods, and tucked away in corners of the Upper East Side (where Gossip Girl is set and where Bloomberg owns several houses). I grew up in Brooklyn and went to school nearby - there is a cafe on the corner of Pineapple street and Henry that is incredibly nostalgic for me. I'm really excited for this book.
