The start to this book is unusual enough, set in a museum in Paris whose creator and curator is a middle aged woman: half-British half-French. The museum exhibits moments of loss or betrayal - a baby’s shoe, a train ticket, A beautiful puppet. The deeper story is of Communist Czechoslovakia and the sort of listening, watching lives of others societal construct.
It’s the tale of a passionate true #love of Laure’s (the museum creator and curator) and betrayal with the loss of her lovely Thomas, the Czech musician.
What I love about the book is the huge repertoire of #emotion it generates: fear, passion, determination, love. The complete gamete of emotions are experienced when you read it! Also the way it moves back in time to the present day which I’ve never seen more skilfully done because you don’t ever lose the thread.
This book isn’t really for the faint hearted but one can learn so much - the questions I asked myself around loss, obsession, forgiveness and moving on. It’s a very worthwhile read!
