3:20 I’m really glad that in flash fire Nick realised how horrible cops can be and begins realise his dad wasn’t all that perfect either. Can’t wait for Heat Waves tho!!

I agree, but we also have to realize that the book is written from Nick's perspective, not Klune's.

Loved this book - didn’t even see the problems you and TJ Klune have discussed- thanks for sharing this perspective. The sequel addresses these issues head on. LOVE THIS BOOK!

Really want to read this one! Thanks for linking the statement, I was apprehensive about it after hearing about how cops are portrayed.

I think it's worth reading for the characters, humor, and the precious love story if you're able to look past the way cops are portrayed. I personally didn't feel like it portrayed them any differently than say a Marvel or DC movie would but I understand why people read it as very problematic.

@@thePMreader Every super hero is portrayed as an ally/adjunct to the police forces (Batman, Spiderman) so it’s normal that cops should be in the picture in one form or another. The fact that Nick’s dad is himself a cop makes the law and order topic more immediate. In Book 2 (Flash Fire) police behaviour problems are addressed full on, with some characters (Gibby and her parents) coming down harshly on him (Dad). Since Extraordinaries was conceived as a trilogy right from the beginning, it’s normal that this specific issue lingered for a while (book 1) before being addressed squarely in book 2. At the end of Flash Fire Nick’s dad resigns from the Nova City PD and part of the reason is he feels he let down citizens by his actions as a cop. I like the fact that Klune doesn’t shirt the topic. All that being said, Nick and Seth are the most adorable pair of teen lovers I’ve come across, on a par with Nick and Charlie (Heartstopper) and Ari and Dante (Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe). And yes, I don’t think I can do without Klune’s zany humour.
