Tudor Roses is probably my favourite collection of knitting patterns ever and the book is visually stunning. I also love and have knit several designs from Alice Starmore’s “Stillwater” and “In the Hebrides” both sadly out of print now. If you can find them from a private seller they would be lovely additions to your collection. Love your podcast and your making projects both knitting and sewing 😊

Oh Wow! That book is stunning. I love history and I love knitting. The tudors are so intriguing to me. This book is definitely on my wish list now. I think I would style those items with just plain shirts and skirts, nothing crazy just let the knit pattern speak for itself.

You've inspired me to get this book. I have Starmore's books Book of Fair Isle Knitting and Fisherman's Sweaters and love them. I had checked the fair isle book out from the library so many times while it was out of print and snatched it up asap when the reprint came out! Your knits are beautiful and inspiring!

The sweaters in the book are beautiful and inspirational. Thank you for sharing them with us. I crochet way more than I knit so I will probably never make one of these sweaters but it certainly inspires me to look for crochet sweater patterns that will challenge me.

Great review! Your enthusiasm for these designs is contagious! I am currently reading Wolf Hall so this is perfect timing. I have often commented that I so appreciate how you talk about wearability with your projects and I definitely have enjoyed seeing you wear the pieces from Tudor Roses that you've made. I have a hard time figuring out styling with such intricate designs. So, thanks again! Can't wait to see the finished Mary Queen of Scots. -Erika

Like you, I'm attracted to more cropped sweaters (I'm 5'2"), so I want to try making a shorter version of the Margaret Tudor. And I wonder if there's a way to take out some pattern repeats and make the Katherine Howard shorter, too... I noticed someone else mentioned Wolf Hall-I just finished the second book in that trilogy, Bring Up the Bodies, which focuses on Anne Boleyn and Jane Seymour. They're amazing novels, if you haven't read them!

Thanks for the book recommendations! I haven’t read them yet, but I’m always on the hunt for a good series. I think a shorter Margaret Tudor would be gorgeous. I do wonder how to work it out? 🤔 The Katherine Howard will be the longest cardigan I’ve ever made. I want to wear it with slimline pants and shorter skirts/dresses. But, I do agree that fewer repeats will work out to shorten it.

When I first bought the book, having seen your Jane Seymour, I thought I would just be looking at the pictures, but now I'm determined to make one of them. I love the Jane Seymour, but I'm the wrong shape for it. The Catherine Parr will suit me better and it will work with my wardrobe. I should order the kit so that I can start knitting it in the autumn. Thank you for introducing me to these lovely garments.
