NEW VIDEO: Riso vs Laser printing: What's the difference? Watch here: • Risograph vs Laser: Wh...
This is Part 1 of 2 talking about booklet basics for zines and comics. In preparing this video, I thought back to what information I think would have helped my clients in the booklet set-up process, especially those that were just starting out in their comics and zine adventures and were figuring out how this whole layout situation worked.
I hope this helps to clarify things somewhat, even though I think I may have gone a bit too in-depth, but I think it's just better to put things out there for completeness' sake. At the end of the day, though, we just want great booklets and zines and happy clients and if this even helped alleviate some confusion, then this video did something right. If this video made you more confused, I'm very sorry!

I have a backlog of videos I would like to edit, including some vlogs and more interviews but because of Canadian thanksgiving, I had some time to film this. It takes quite a lot for me to plan and record a tutorial so I may skip a week or two before Part 2 comes out.
So a note about the animation - I threw this together very quickly in After Effects so it's not perfect, and I'm aware it can be better, and if I had more time and resources, I would have fixed it up more. However, this isn't some fancy animation job for a marketing campaign and sometimes, one just has to get what needs to be done, done. :-)
I am interested in eventually creating storytelling videos (not like personal storytimes but literary-type artistic storytelling videos) so we'll see how this progresses in the future. I'm learning so much since I started Youtubing, and overall it has done wonders for me personally despite the difficulties.

Regarding featured zines, I have put a bunch of tags here: 12:39
Hello Boyfriend at www.helloboyfriend.ca/ is the group behind the zines that I featured in 01:22 and 01:30. They're quite prolific and have a passion for creating great comics! Please check them out :-)

I use an Irig Lavalier Mic. It captures sound really well, is very portable, and easily plugs into my iPhone: amzn.to/2Q0HeYJ
