I watched the movie ‘I’m thinking of ending things’ and loved it so much. Then I read the book, which was beautiful in the way books are. But the movie did such a good job and getting the atmosphere and tone of the book perfectly right and in some ways out does the book in certain visual twists and subtleties that are too explicit and overt in the book

@@Crystal-nw3mv I guess it wasn’t for you, but I absolutely loved it. beautiful strange acting and atmosphere and sound design. The way they visualised stream of consciousness, inner monologues, dreams, was very entrancing. I think critics loved it but yea it’s not popular among general audiences.. too bad It’s also an adaptation, it’s not suppsed to be a replica. It’s an interpretation of the ending, it’s more fitting I think, I wouldn’t have liked a Fight Club type reveal at the end at all

I do think you should broaden your reading list, because you seem you do like more different literary approach and have completely different interests than vlogger. I always recommend person should stick to books and subjects that he/she generally loves, it is what matters, however weird it may seem or difficult at the times. Or, you may find a great recommendation elsewhere for something new and probably interesting at the moment.

I feel you on the thumbnail thing. I hate selfies, the idea of posing for a thumbnail photo it freaks me out. So I just never take selfies. River Phoenix in one interview talks about how he hates being captured so much on camera, and how he started having superstitions after he learned about how Native Americans believe that cameras take away people's souls in small pieces with each photograph. Video seems a bit different even though it's technically thousands of stills, it's this still aspect of photographs that seem uncanny to me. Great channel 👍

I watched the I’m Thinking of Ending Things movie before reading the book. Whole time I was very confused and I didn’t know what was happening but I sort of enjoyed it? Fast forward a few years later and I find a used copy on my local bookstore so I decided to pick it up since a friend of mine told me the book was not as confusing. Now, at this time I had forgotten a lot of things about the movie but I was still debating whether to read it or not since I hate watching movies first and I did it just because I saw it on Netflix and I didn’t know it was an adaptation. The book was a million times better, even having a vague idea of what was going to happen I was still SO tense throughout it, and frankly scared at points. I mean, I agree with you, it’s not an easy book to translate into a movie and that made me appreciate the movie more since it’s sort of a stream of consciousness book so they did what they could, but how I wish I would’ve read the book first because I think I would’ve loved it a lot more

It definitely doesn’t hurt that it was adapted and directed by Charlie Kaufman, combined with the out of this world cast with the likes of Jessie Buckley, Jessie Plemons, Toni Collette, and David Thewlis.
