The spray paint wasn't only dripping because you were too close, the coats of paint were too thick as well! You have to do several thin coats. Just like the dark green walls having terrible coverage with only the first coat, that's how the pipes are going to be as well. It's so tempting to keep spraying until it looks good, but you definitely have to wait for every layer to dry!! Luckily when you actually do the project, if you just go along and do one layer on all the pipes, by the time you finish that, the first pipe will probably be ready for the next layer. With how much spray paint you're going to need for this though, it might be a better option to find a standard metallic paint and rent a paint sprayer.

Also beware of fire safety if those vents do heat as well! Idk much about fire safe materials, but i know we had issues with the fire marshall where i used to work with our decor. There are probably good resources online for what is okay to use or maybe you can ask your local fire department or something :) i hope you can do copper, its so pretty!

You should use a paint pot and brush the copper Color on. Way cheaper, more effective and better coverage. Not as harmful for lungs and nature also.

hearing "We are making this ADA accessible as hell" makes me so happy! I am a law student and took disability law last year where we did a project where we went to a bunch of small businesses to see if they were ADA compliant and it was crazy how many weren't. I'm sure it is so much harder for small businesses to have the resources to do that and it's awesome that you guys are even thinking about it because most places don't.

See, my instinct would've been to rent a warehouse and 3 dozen folding tables and move all the books to it. One of us would manage completely rearranging and redesigning the store while the other (ideally me) would go through and catalog the entire store and then move stuff in section by section. This whole moving over and back and over and back I've done too many damn times in my life and I never wanna do it again. I'd rather go through everything once and get it all done in bulk. Also, if you haven;t read it yet, I'd recommend _Sixpence House_ by Paul Collins. It will probably make your situation feel less stressful by comparison.

just a small tip to save a bit of money when painting the walls, if you have excess plastic bags you dont need, tape one loosely over the entire paint roller tray before you pour the paint into the tray. this way when you are done, you can just take off the plastic bag, fold it in on itself, and you still have a perfectly clean tray to use next time you need to paint! :D

Have you considered a metal paint to do the copper color instead of just spray paint? It’d probably save time and overspray from getting absolutely everywhere. Too bad you don’t have some plastic drop cloths to cover the already done sections to help hinder some of that dust from settling. That would also stop paint from landing on any of the books, new shelves, or finished walls. I do love the hunter green color; of course that’s the color of our house. the copper will look really spiffy with that. You might need some copper wire art.

A quick tip, do short quick bursts with the spray paint. A cheaper and cool option would be an antique looking epoxy, that doesn't mean faux. Distressed-like marbling for example. The musics during the speedy montage is sometimes very loud ahah (like at 10:30) just discovered your channel, so I just wanted to pointed it out Also I'm curious about the market for 2nd hand book, does every kind of book gets purchased ? Because some book can quickly feel outdated (like politics or more likely uni programs), what do/will you do about books that really don't find a public?
@bookshopbesties
Жыл бұрын
Haha oh goodness, I was editing like a madwoman this morning and forgot to adjust the audio for the music 😭 so sorry about that! I’ll pay much closer attention to that from now on! Regarding the books that are outdated, we sell them for book art! So we have people who make book arches or collages or a variety of other things, and those are the ones we give to them! It felt so wrong at first but we’ve come to accept the fact that it’s either the books like that get put to good use in a new, fun way or they would have to get recycled, and we’re much happier to know they’re going to artists than the bin!
