The issue also with mounting on the front is that your most likely going to destroy your aerials in a frontal impact. Which is fairly common with animal hits on the road. A mount on the rear bar or bumper would be better insurance although defs not an easy thing to accomplish

I’m not convinced that high frequency radiation bouncing around inside the car is safe. Hats off to you for having the balls to try it.

It’s probably not. But anytime that we’re in range of a phone tower, walking near a power line, or in a home/facility with wifi, we’re technically being affected by EMFs too. I can’t imagine it’s much different

@@WillsLandcruiser yeah I think the difference is you’re sitting 2 feet away from the transmitter.

Not convinced that these things are a must when a sat phone costing around the same can work anywhere. For what you are using it for, sure I get the appeal.

Another great video.. been looking into Cell-fi repeater and there are no other alternatives that I have found (maybe nighthawke for wi-fi?) Can you run a data speed test with and without Cell-fi. Signal strength on your phone with cell-fi on is a 'fake' value that indicates how close your mobile device is to the cell-fi repeater. It is not indicative of the actual connection with the Telstra Mobile network. Do you have a power draw from the Cell-fi device? And finally... if height is king when it comes to signal strength and interference (less objects/car/hills in line with the towers) why are aerials put on the bullbar and not on the roof?

Hey mate thanks for the questions. To answer your “fake” value question, that’s where the “signal quality” indicator on the app is a great thing because it accurately represents how the signal will perform on your device. If this is a low figure, you can bet your data speed won’t be fantastic, but if it’s a decent figure you will get fast internet. Obviously the exact speeds are dependant on your location. I don’t have the tool to measure draw, but considering it came with a cigarette lighter plug, I’m gonna say no more than 15A. You’re right in saying that height is key to get a good signal, and if you want to maximise your chances of getting good signal then go ahead. However for myself, antennas on the roof are not practical, not easy to install and I think they look neater on the bullbar- personal preference.

Nice mate, would have been worth mentioning the illegal boosters also, telstra are able to actively track the illegal ones, but the inconvenience they cause to others aren't to well known about

Yes, only works with one provider. Have to choose between Telstra, Optus or Vodafone compatible I believe. Each network works on different bands so the unit is only designed to work with one provider.

@@TheJazza101 This issue is quite opaque. Remember that any cell phone can work with any operator (ie unless locked). Yes, they have their own frequency allocations, but they are blocks of frequency band quite close to each other, so no antenna is that specific as to frequency, that it will only work with one companies band allocation. There may be other technical reasons why these Cel-Fi are network operator specific, but it could well be marketing.

How close does the phone need to be to the unit

Within the car generally. As soon as you step outside the effects weaken
