I think of shooting street like problem-solving. You have to think on your feet and execute - nothing worse than dropping a moment from fumbling with lenses, settings or being too picky with framing. Sometimes better to be quick than to be perfect.

Thank you for sharing these tips. The one I like the most is Tip #1, the one about selecting a theme for the day. I think this is a great short term alternative to Projects in Street Photography, which usually consist of multiple focused sessions carried out over a longer period of time.

Thanks so much for that! I think it’s such a great thing to do. If you’re new especially, I know I often walked around a bit lost initially without any real aim. Also later on if you want to start of a bit of a project like you’ve suggested, it gets you headed in the right direction 😃

Great content. I also like your pictures. I like that you didn’t dwell on gear. Focusing on composition and have the right attitude is far more important in my experience. Working on project also keeps if focused but fresh.

Thanks so much Justin! I’m guilty of going out plenty of times not really knowing what I was doing and walking around a bit aimlessly, so it can definitely help. Ayy love that you’re the second person to comment on the shirt 🤘🏻

@@TKNORTH Just checking back in, TK! Spent the day in Melbourne on Friday - had a great time and learned a huge amount. Made lots of errors naturally (that's how we get better!); and I took a small number of shots that I'm really pleased with. Can't ask for more on a first outing! Two of your tips were particularly helpful: think about a couple of themes (I went with the reflections idea for a while); and rather than making individual people the principal focus, I chose slightly larger 'contexts' in which people appeared. It's a brilliant tactic. I have a bridge camera, so for much of the time I stuck to a 50mm equivalent focal length, which also made me move around. Can't wait to get back and do more. Thanks again - your video was instrumental in getting me started.

One idea I saw in your intro that you didn't talk about was how you use framing. Whether it was columns, people or even the shot of the two people looking out the window, you do a great job with this.

Thanks so much and glad you enjoyed it! I totally get that, for me I only shoot in this way for the POV style videos, that’s where that footage is from. Makes them a bit more interesting to watch! But usually with IBIS on the R5/6 even the slower speeds it doesn’t tend to be an issue for me!

Top tips Well I knew most of the tips since that I am doing street photography since 10 years Thank you for the video and please try to upload more POV videos I have a challenge for you Well you can accept it or not Get a Canon 10D with a 50 MM and hit the streets with this combo It will be great if you can do this challenge as a POV Thank you so much TK North …

Hi TKNORTH nice tips and tricks. Enjoyed watching your video. What about 70-200 f 2.8 lens? Do you use filters for street photography?
@TKNORTH
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much and glad you enjoyed! Actually for me the one zoom lens I used quite a bit especially when getting started was the 70-200. I feel like this is another way to get a bit more comfortable as you can shoot a bit more from a far, so that actually helped me initially just get comfortable! But I do always think it’s good idea to get outside your comfort and shoot a bit wider every once and a while too. Typically I don’t use filters but I have started to occasionally use the pro mist here and there 👍🏼

Great tips again. Which aperture settings would u prefer for street photography?
@TKNORTH
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! It depends a bit on the situation but personally I often like having a more narrow depth of field (wider aperture) focusing in on the subject, this is just the style I like to shoot. But I do know others who prefer not to shoot too narrow and potentially miss focus, so can also depend a bit on your camera and AF system too I think!
