I totally agree with the leather sole. Feels better, more confidently. Great Diesel boots, waited for a while for a size 8 boots. Thanks for the video. More power to ypu.

Low durometer rubber soles is what to look for when traction on ice is a priority. One good example is my N-1B Army Mukluks - only got them this past winter but I’m sure they’ve saved my ass from multiple slips on my walks to and from work.

My personal favourite at the moment is the commando lug sole despite it potentially turning into a death trap when you meet slippery wet tiles. I suspect my favourite would change yet again once I get a chance to own a pair with Dr. Soles half soles. I have to also specially mention the leather soles Oakstreet Bootmakers use though. Unlike other leather soles I had the chance to use, the one OSB uses is impregnated with some sort of water resisting oils. The result is a pretty water resistant leather sole that is easy to clean after stomping around in the rain and mud that doesn't fall apart. You do need to pay attention to not walk over broken glass or sharp rocks with it though since no degree of water resistant would help if you're poking holes into your leather soles. You are right about the noise leather boots make though. It feels like I am goosestepping everywhere if I'm not paying attention to how I distribute my weight when I walk. But I can walk silently with leather soles on if I pay attention to my walking.

I've worn my iron rangers all day long before without any issues. I know a lot of people say they're hard on their feet but are they really? My feet hurt less at the end of the day after wearing a boot with a veg tan insole. The veg tan insole puts pressure in the pressure points on our feet and releases built up tension. We can prove the built up tension by applying pressure on the outside of our shin, by the calf. Move the pressure around and you'll eventually feel discomfort. With a pillow under our feet it won't do what a thick piece of leather will. I know this is a sole video. Sorry for my tangent. I love the wedge sole because of how they look.

I've only gotten into leather soles in the last couple of years and really like them. Yes you have to step carefully especially when they're new. But the flexibility and breathability are excellent. I always have metal toe plates installed on my leather soled shoes because I don't like to see the front of the toe wear away. I have the 430 mini lug sole on my RW Blacksmith boot. Seems very durable yet kind of hard feeling underfoot. You should dump those Clark's and get a pair of RW Weekender Chukka's. They have a nicer leather upper and the outsole is similar to crepe, but more durable and they don't turn black.

Nice video, mate. Personally I like the lugged half soles as well as lugged full soles like the vibram 430. The Ridgeway sole is also a great choice. As for my Grant Stones on leather soles - I've fitted them with mini lug half soles which increases the traction, but also protects the leather soles themselves
@YouShoe-1985

That a good point with the GS leather soles. You can always add a mini lug or even a sole protector to them for better grip.

Lug Sole= Concrete or coarse surfaces Studded Sole/Christy Sole= Soft surfaces and smooth surfaces like marble and carpet. Leather Sole= Soft surfaces like carpet but once scuffed up and worn in can be used on marble and smooth surfaces without a lot of slipping. Leather soles have no indents so of course slipping is happening a lot.

The original Iron Rangers uses cork/nitril rubber sole. I wonder why they don't have the same problems like the Clarks. The Vibram lugs soles are mud trap. And they are pain to removed. There are other 'V' shape lugs from Timberland Pro that are just as grippy, without being mud or stone trap. My complains with some of the brands like Nicks, Whites and JKs are that they stick to a few Vibram soles. While Vibram has lots of new design, and I can only find them in the non-heritage safety boots. Red Wings do use some of the newer soles, but they are in the Work/Safety line...made overseas (Vietnam)
