Hello, Brandon. Thanks for posting this review! It helped me decide to take the plunge and buy one. I do have a question...I just received my Tab X and have been setting it up. Did you notice that your device has some give (mainly in the center of the screen) when you write on it? If so, did you experience the same thing on the Tab Ultra? Thanks!
@BrandonKBoswell

Hey Josh. Thanks for reach out. Yes, mine also has that give. I think it’s due to the size of the tablet (and perhaps due to the fact they have made the screen thinner). I personally don’t mind it, but I think this is normal and expected on this device. I haven’t used the Tab Ultra, but my Note Air 2 Plus doesn’t flex.

I write in Scrivener which is great but not the best atmosphere to review my work at the end of the day as it is rather taxing. However, if I could review it on a e-ink screen and add notes easy to reference... that really would be something. There seems to be three main KZitemrs where I hoped to find direction regarding this issue _[Kit, Voja & Brandon],_ yet to date haven't yet stumbled upon a video that addresses reviewing e-books as well as the organisation issues surrounding this topic. I'm leaving this comment on all three channels in the hope that one or more might address the issue or point me to a video that does.

Great review. Thank you... Describe the feel of the pen on screen please. If you did in the video, I missed it. I mean, you said it was "smoother" than the Remarkable and "great" but what does that mean. "Middle ground" between Remarkable and Supernote. I guess I want a comparison to pen and paper. It is more like a fine liner? Gel pen? ???
@BrandonKBoswell
Жыл бұрын
Hey Todd. The screen feel on the Tab X is unique due to it's Carta 1250 panel. Which is flexible instead of rigid. Majority of the devices I've reviewed (reMarkable 2, Boox Tab Ultra, Note Air 2) all use a rigid display with a glass panel. The Tab X has a flexible panel and that shapes it's writing feel. Due to this it has a bit of give and is quite enjoyable to write on. It's not as much give as on the Supernote which I find bogs down most pens (hence why I said I don't prefer writing the Supernote, but it is otherwise an excellent device). The feel on the Tab X is much more in Gel pen territory on the Tab X do to it's soft screen and mostly smooth finish. Hope this helps. Happy to chat it over further here or on the Knowledge Worker's Discord. Link in the description.

I'm a professional musician and I've been keeping my eye on this space for nearly 2 decades and just checking in regularly on tablets, but more especially lately on E-ink. The market just hasn't quite hit the spot to meet my needs and be at a price point I can justify for a single purpose device. This is getting close. Something in the 13+ inch range. The price is still not quite there for me. It's crazy the jump in price from 10 to 13 inches both here and in the normal tablet space. I'm hoping some of these devices are out long enough to hit another generation so I can potentially pick up a cheaper refurbed older model.

@@BrandonKBoswell hey Brandon thanks for your reply. I got my TabX delivered yesterday and I am very pleased with it. I've been tinkering around with it non stop over the last 24 hours and I found a workaround that might work. I use a combination of 2 very good Android apps: Solid Explorer to manage files and create folders shortcuts on my desktop, and Dropsync to sync up the different PDFs I edit in the TabX. Syncing works both ways, so if I change something on my Mac, it'll automatically go on the Onyx and vice versa... 💪🏻

I can speak for my Max3. The 13.3" screen makes reading pdf's an enjoyable experience, better than the 10" screen imho. One of the reasons why I adopted eink is exactly on account of the issue you describe with the iPad, namely eye sensitivity to the screen front light. The Max3 doesn't have a light and if I buy the TabX then I shall switch the light off. For night time reading an external light is preferable.

Many of these scanned books have a background texture such as in a picture, so I am wondering how they will turn out on the eink tablet.

@xyzoub
8 ай бұрын
There seems there would be many issues with such a device: one is the high amount of front light that would be needed to make the screen reasonably visible, since coloured eink appears darker due to the coloured filter layer; this would highly increase battery usage and make the tablet as energy effective as an ipad; a decent frontlight for a colour 13.3 would need 5 to 10 times the power of a 7″ mono ereader for the same brightness. Also the dpi on the monochrome Tab X is 207; if they brought the B&W resolution to 230, the colour resolution in a Tab X C would only be half that, 115 dpi, which is pretty low to market the device. There are advantages to the mono 13.3, and the colour 13.3 seems to be a big question mark at this point, unless there is some major tek breakthrough; but then again such a device would correspond only to a small niche of users. It seems Boox isn't publicising any potential future release of a 13.3 colour device? is it because it's still too experimental at this stage and the economics of the thing are not well-defined? perhaps a more interesting innovation would be to produce a more advanced mono 13.3 with better processing and 227 dpi or even better yet 300 dpi; something to fully browse the web and watch videos online as efficiently as on a tablet which would highly increase the device's market value and offer real advantages to the eye-busting LCD tablets for the general public.

Thanks for the replies , your reviews helped me a lot in deciding what to buy between supernote and note air 2+. At the start i regretted buying the note air because of the disposable pen nib and the business model of the company. But then i realized i made the correct choice because of all the features that the boox already have - backlight, better reader and geometric shapes in the note taking apps. that is a good trade for the better writing feel of the supernote. I just wish boox cared as much as ratta cares for their supernote.
