In case you remember, I'm the horn player that approached you at the Strathmore Music Center in Maryland and told you how incredibly helpful these were - and are! Thanks again.

These videos by Toby Oft are so very close to my experience at the University of Arizona School of Music about forty-five years ago. My trombone professor had me playing many of these exercises by Bordogni/Rochut. Watching these videos, suddenly I feel young again.

YAY, you’re finally posting again!!!! Super glad to have one of my favorite trombonists posting again. Do you know what equipment is being used for the side profile camera?
@TobyOft
4 жыл бұрын
christopher rivera thanks so much!! The side close in camera I used was my Sony A7 r4 with a 24-70 f2.8 lens. Although I don’t remember where I set the f stop..... somewhere around 4.5 to 5.6 I think? The wide shot on my left was a Nikon d850 with a sigma 85 prime - here’s hoping that on Rochut 10 I’m able to match the white balances better 😂!

Dear Maestro Toby, I am a Chinese trombone player who has admired you for a long time, and the trombone I am currently using is also your signature model, due to some internet reasons in China I cannot find more practice pieces, so I am taking the liberty to bother you. Maybe I can have a photo or a pdf of it?about “Bordogni Rochut”.This is very important to me, thank you very much, I hope I can learn more with your help, thank you again and sorry for my presumption. Have a good day!

Thans for this upload. It really motivates me to play. Question about the sixteenth notes. Do you play them with a D or with a T?
@TobyOft
4 жыл бұрын
Honestly... I play with a soft T by default. I would describe it like a hard th, like "Thu". Let me know if it helps - my mouth isn't your mouth 😂

Good catch!! I guess I was typing too quickly - I’ll fix that ASAP!! Thanks for playing with me, that’s why I recorded these etudes 🤗. Keep a look out for No. 10, which is ready to be published on Wednesday!! (Those rings are there for me, not you 🙃)

Be sure to listen on headphones for optimal quality - tablet or smartphone speakers probably don't give the recording quality it's due....
