It's fantastic to witness two brilliant musicians "playing" with each other. You can always tell when it's something special if the band start laughing - as in this clip ! R.I.P. Victor - we miss you xxxxx

Now...... Borge was taught by - amongst others - Frederic Lamond, one of Liszt's finer pupils. His playing is always connected to that older style we hear on the recordings of those masters born in the 1860s. This improv is truly wonderful (or maybe I should say "twoderful") and surely not dissimilar to many concerts in the 19th century.

Extraordinaire duo.

Some here may not realise that Borge was making things up as they were going along and had never done this piece before and the accompaniment was decided a few seconds before they started. Borge was one heck of a pianist and what an amazing way to prove it. He was the real deal alright, a world class musician !!!

To be fair, I'm sure he had known the piece before and the harmonies are very simple to get only by ear, but making it into such a witty and funny piano part - that's where the awesomeness is :)

A truly unforgettable interplay between two musical giants!! Kontra knew Borge wasn't as familiar with the piece as he was and took full advantage. Borge's response was instinctive and comical! The key change near the end by Kontra pushed Borge to the limit and the expressions on the faces of some of the orchestra at that point highlight what a rascal Kontra is. What a joy it must have been for those in attendance. It is certainly a joy to be able to watch it! Thanks for downloading!!
