Dear Streaky. Thank you for featuring my composition in your tutorial. I am always glad to learn something new, especially from a pro with 25 years experience. When mastering a track, I always take it to my car (which has an amazing JBL full surround sound system with sub-woofer); and thus, usually I find myself being over-careful to allow too much bass in the track (because it rumbles the car's sub-woofer). But now I feel more confident to turn up the bass a little bit more. ;-) Love your videos. :-)

@@dannydaniel1234 Yeah, I'm not saying outboard is bad, I was responding to the original comment. It's why guys like Streaky have all this nice gear, but will end up using Fabfilter a lot of the time. If you need to quickly cut 2 db at around 200hz, fabfilter does that justa s well as a fancy 5 grand EQ a lot of the time, and it does it without the hassle. :)

You give a really deep usages of the Dynamic EQ. I like to use it a lot in Mastering. Because is much more natural for the song. But also is really good guitars and real instruments. Gives a really clean sound and natural dynamics

Even this dynamic EQ is predictable and it "goes off-on" when you don't want to - it's not alive:)) ... I do this manually throughout the mix, 1001 move if necessary; but it's great for the vocals and rhythm section, I agree. I have TC - Helicon voicelive with a "tone" function, so it's like dynamic EQ, and than I use also the turning and tweeking of the nobs ... So it's even more complex:)) Great video again. I hope this is not "the new escape" from "the real magic" in the mix and fine tunning by human, step by step ...

Wow. The difference in the "excitement" as you call it so apparently better with the dynamic eq. The parametric version definitely improves as far as the perceived sonic frequencies. Excellent information and demonstration as usual. Subscribed and bell rung for months now. Thank You.

Streaky, thank you for all your input! Your videos are my journey to clearer mixes. I guess that the dynamic EQs are a present to the mixing world. There is more life and movement and yes more CPU power necessary. But in most of the time it will be less static and let the good things in. It is like a minimal invasive surgery...

I use it throughout the mix on tracks that need it. Maybe I want a part of the baseline to pull down during snare build or I want the reverse clap/crash to come out more than other instruments. I never touch the premaster channel other than using FabFilter MB to make vocal pop out more. Only started doing that trick because of your videos. Thank you 🙏

I put a little dynamic EQ boost at 100Hz (0,5db) going from -0.5 db to 0. and also cut at 10KHZ (0,3db) (Ozone 8) and it sounds better, but I did it after mastering the track. I know I should do it on the final mix or single track in the mix, but mastering compressor adds a lot of energy and movement also, so I think it's O.K. to do it at the end of the mastering process when you hear "the final thing", if the song is too static or not. Or is it better to do it on the final mix?

Isn’t this the same as applying a multiband compressor with “compress” and “expand”? Maybe the only difference is that you can work on very narrow bands...
