Hi Boris FX! I know this is a bit unrelated to the video, but I wanted to spread a positive message about one of your support representatives. I purchased a bundle on the website, but needed some questions/bits figured out. Neal was incredibly helpful, and fixed any questions wonderfully. Thank you again!

Can you please update this training series for the newest build of Particle Illusion? I really want to learn it but it looks very intimidating.

Yes, we would like to do this too. In the meantime, start with Exercises 21 & 27 here : borisfx.com/free-training/particle-illusion-getting-started/ That will get you up to speed with the new node layout view, and how to work some of the newest features.

Hello, very powerful tool, there are a lot of parameters for fine tuning, one proposal : when a default value is changed, tag the parameters with a dedicated color or add a flag. Would be a grad help. Thanks

sorry if this is obvious or not, but is there a way to import this into blender?

That's a good question. Not as particles, no. You can only take out the rendered image.

Hi! I'm trying to recreate a thin energy vortex. I use "sparclles smoke 10a", emission at point, particles with long live and force with Fluid Dynamics. But i cant bend the flow of particles in right place and with right angle. I've tried using deflector, but my particles ignore deflector in force field volume with fluid dynamics (Is there some kind of error in the software?..) I've tried using spherical type force fields for bend flow, but I could not achieve the expected result. What am I missing? Is there in the Particle Illusion thing, like a "Curve Guide" for "Force Field" in Blender? What I wanted to create: rising energy vortex with a predictable predetermined basic trajectory of particle motion with some small fluctuations from a given curve. I thought it was pretty simple and quick to do, but I've already spent quite a lot of time and couldn't get a result.

This is kind of straightforward, when you know what tools to use. Deflectors and forces do work together, but remember to check out how those deflectors look in 3D. For this job, forget deflectors. You don't need them. You were already on the right lines with Sphere forces. Add a couple more of those to the scene with negative strength and it should help. Remember too, that your Fluids force also has a direction and strength. That could be pushing things away too. Don't be afraid to change the "Affected by Fluids" parameter on the emitter to tighten or loosen things up. Join us on Discord or on the forums and you can show what you have and we can give you some tips to improve it. forum.borisfx.com/ or www.borisfxdiscord.com

@@BorisFXco Thanks for the answer! I'll try to work with sphere forces again and check the emitter settings. It's great that you have a discord server!

"I've gone ahead and setup a scene".... and how did you set up that scene?

The previous exercises will show you how to set up a Particle Illusion scene. If you want to start with something that looks like John's, use the Basic Flow Burst preset in the Emitters 2022 library. Then delete the forces nodes that are included in that scene. If you want a constant flow of particles, change the Particle Stream > Number parameter to a constant value of 100. The techniques shown here will work with any setup. You can use it to spice up any of the presets or your own particle systems.
