Pretending to want to leave the EU for selfish career reasons, and using the most important UK-wide vote at least in my lifetime purely as an instrument to try to further his career, was despicable stuff. We know that he was hoping for the expected outcome, a narrow remain win, so that Cameron’s authority would still be damaged after a divisive campaign, he’d still be the ‘darling of the Tory membership’ and would be best placed to replace Cameron, but then wouldn’t have to ‘clean up the mess’ of a leave win.

Terrible interview and interviewer. We really didn't get to hear what BoJo wanted to say because of the hysterics of Tom Bradbury. There is no doubt that Boris made some big side mistakes but also called the critical issues mostly correctly. He is not a details man, much more big picture. I think his biggest error was not having a strong details man on his team to avoid the many banana skins going on around him. It's easy to judge him, but not so easy to be in his shoes when he faced Brexit, COVID and Russia squarely in the face. What has come after him has been far worse and likely to get worse. Armchair criticism is easy, but leadership is not.

Complete rubbish. He was absolutely useless on Covid and caused many excess deaths through his ludicrous indecision and inability to get on top of the detail. (The detail is sometimes the job.) He repeatedly lied about Partygate, to us and the House of Commons: that matters. People who make the laws have to follow them and tell the truth. He did get Ukraine right but is now supporting Donald Trump, who'd pull the rug out from under Ukraine in a heartbeat. Levelling up was a con. As for Brexit, he lied about that too: there never was any prospect of Turkey joining the EU and flooding us with immigrants, and there is no 'Brexit dividend' economically: it's left the UK weaker and poorer.
@nigelhart3897

He was a crook, a liar and cared only about himself. This farcical nonsense he got most of the big calls right is exactly that. Brexit a disaster, just an opportunity to exploit a situation based on propaganda and ignorance. Covid was another opportunity to raid the coffers of the country via corrupt contracts while half a million died. This man was put in charge of a corrupt party because he was a greedy, shameless liar. Inevitably, albeit eventually, even the naive, ignorant British public saw through him. The rag that is the Telegraph continues to pedal this rubbish at great cost to the majority in this country for the benefit of the few.
