Borovsk is a small town in the Kaluga region, located on the Protva River, 78 kilometers north of Kaluga.
For the first time Borovsk is mentioned in the spiritual charter of the Grand Duke Ivan the Red from 1358.
In 1378, the settlement with several volosts was transferred to Prince Vladimir the Brave.
In the middle of the 15th century, the Paphnutievo-Borovsky Monastery was founded on the outskirts of Borovsk.
In 1776, by decree of Empress Catherine II, Borovsk was granted the status of a county town of Borovsky District of Kaluga viceroyalty.
During the Patriotic War of 1812, the Paphnutievo-Borovsky Monastery was burned by French troops.
In 1857, a major fire destroyed about 200 buildings, 150 residential buildings and several churches.
In 1929, the city became the administrative center of the Borovsky district of the Kaluga District of the Moscow Region.
In 1944, Borovsk and the district became part of the Kaluga Region.
From December 1941 to January 1942, the settlement was under the occupation of German troops.
