I have two Acoustimass 10 ii modules, one Acoustimass 5 ii, and two Acoustimass 5 iii. The 10 ii have deep bass but don’t have much mid bass, the 5 ii has good mid bass but less deep bass, the 5 iii has good mid bass and deep bass. I love my Bose collection and with the right amp they sound incredible. The 10 ii and 5 iii should have the port facing a wall or corner while the 5 ii module sounds best with port aimed into the room.

Wow! This video was felt so professional! Also very nicely edited! :) My thought about the Bose AM5 is that the woofer is quite good, for an average user this system sounds probably amazing, but for me its clearly not worth it buying in 2023.

Bose is recalling all active bass modules due to fire hazard issues. But the AM5 is using passive bass module which is safer and easier to drive with any amp or receiver.

Yeah, they recalled nearly 1 million units which is really crazy. I saw a powered acoustimass module a few days ago for sales in a 2nd hand shop for cheap but I dont want to see my collection burst into flames so...I didn't take it.

The drivers in those powered ones are not very good, but they do have a cool t-line enclosure. I will be removing the amp from the back of my AM6 III module, since it isn’t inside the speaker enclosure. This will convert it into a nice passive unit.
@brigganthewolf1461

That would be the newer T-line module they're recalling. My father has had his 1990 AM10 5.1 surround with the bass stuck to max for over 30 years, and it's still kicking.

What a great video! Straight to the point, no useless stuff. You said it: made to sound impressive, not Hi-Fi. They were definitively NOT a good deal back then for 800€ but today they're really fun. One day I'll get one bass module for cheap and have some fun :p I still don't like the cubes btw

Be careful about the powered bass modules though. Bose says the ampliFires (yes I misspelled that on purpose) in the back are a fire hazard. I plan to remove the amp from mine and use it as a passive unit.

I am listening to this video, through a Cinemate. It is a Series 1, almost like a 1 2 3, or a GS. But it’s only the two main speakers (each one has two drivers, each one in each speaker is angled to the listener, and the other is angled to the side walls. Like a V, or a “^” more accurately.) The inside two hits your, stereo left right, and the outer two. They do that reflective surround. The Acoustimass, does that low frequency thing, and the only other part is, a little box which has the red and white input (only one), and the receiver for the ir. That’s it. No buttons or controls at all. The remote only does two things sort of. First is power, which it really doesn’t ever turn off, it only mutes. Second is the volume. Power is supplied by the Acoustimass Module. Clean simple and Bosey.

Yeah I never really liked those Bose systems, they all sound the same...a crap ton of processing and not much details + a huge lack of personalization
@johnsimun6533

@@LSandM-SpeakersFromEverywhere It is a sound signature. Think about it like a car manufacturer using similar designs across their product line. It ties together the family of products that they produce. So you are correct, they sound Bosey. As far as personalization, they are not designed for showing out, but they are designed to blend in with the decor, and are designed to show class, and minimizing the flash, while looking quality. Like the way they sound. According to the setup and model, in conjunction with your source and other equipment, you might not have had much detail, but they are not going to be reference speakers for other brands, but Bose is meant to be musical and easy to listen to. Enjoy what sound you like, but I enjoy a mix of different brands, and switch between multiple brands, components, etc…, periodically. Good listening.

I also have a Bose acoustimass, but mine’s a series 3. It has the same module, but the cubes are a different design, and just as bad. A little public service announcement for those in the U.S. or Canada, and maybe other places as well: many if not all of the powered Acoustimass units sold there (not these passive ones) have been recalled by Bose over a possible fire hazard. You should look into this if you have one. I have one and plan to keep my driver and possibly the cool t-line enclosure that those have, but I will likely remove the amp in mine.

Those cubes are really horrible...I think that newer bass modules use other drivers, similar to the ones used in cars (a mix between richbass and cinemate drivers) but thats it. I have a few Bose speakers. I got them from a few eBay lots for under $60 and got some from the trash. Of course, they aren’t worth their price expensive point and I don’t use them as my daily drivers. All of mine sound pretty good, but not great, though. The ones I got from 2020 are actually some of the better Bose speakers. They have some good midrange and don’t have boxy sound, unlike some of the other Acoustimass and Lifestyle systems. I wouldn’t ever spend $4,000 on their LifeStyle 650 system, obviously. It’s not worth it at all. I use my Elac Debut 2.0 B6.2 as my daily driver and they’re fantastic speakers for their price point. I paid $290 for them I believe.

Nice comparison to Sonos. They are made to sound impressive. Not Hifi. Although I will say I have heard many Sonos products and was not impressed in the slightest. wow they sound nice. but I can see a problem with the foam surround and having it dry rot. it would be better if they used rubber instead. but the thing is that I had a Bose system too but the sub surround rotted out. because of the humidity.😥 but the good thing is that i replaced it with Ruber instead. intel I got a Beter sound system witch is a par of Kenwood. and there from the 90s. 🙂 and i might make a sound testing video.

I have this same system in black too and I love it. I also use it with a 10 inch powered subwoofer for better sub bass. The AM5 ll system sounds super clean and has great high end. The cubes will actually get to 20K without the use of tweeters which is great. The bass module will get down to 35HZ which is very good for a 6th order bandpass enclosure with two 5.25 inch woofers
@LSandM-SpeakersFromEverywhere

Hummm...Idk where you got this frequency reponse but its completely wrong. Highs of the sats are crap and they do roll off at 10khz you can heavily hear it. Also, yeah, the bass module does hit 35hz but not with a -3db measurement
@PlatinumEagleStudios
9 ай бұрын
@@LSandM-SpeakersFromEverywhere Actually look at the frequency response for the Bose Freespace cube satellite speakers. They use the exact same 2.5 inch mid/high driver. Bose states 170 to 20K response at - 10DB. At +/- 3DB they will hit 16K
@LSandM-SpeakersFromEverywhere
9 ай бұрын
Yes, "Bose says that" but its not true, of course they can hit 16khz -3db but with what amp? What settings? With a normal amp (that sounds flat) and no treble boost, even 10khz already sounds muffled. Also, a 800$ speaker system that does 20khz with -10db (AND according to bose, its actually even worse) is just not acceptable.

@@LSandM-SpeakersFromEverywhereBose is not made to take measurements! Its sound has an internal equalization to be pleasant to the average ear in general... what else can you expect from such tiny cubes? They already sound pretty cool for their size, but they're not made for audiophiles. It is stupid to measure them or compare them with towers.
