Great detailed review! Would love to see you do the same comparison for the EV50 vs JBL PRX ONE. Couple of points you forgot: Bose column made of very thin aluminum easily dented compared to the heavy metal used in the previous L1M2, gigging musicians advised to buy heavy expensive hard cases, two channel mixer Bass/Treble no mids! Tone match mixer required should be free! No separate gain control for sub, my Maui5 has it! On the App no gain control for the aux line out, EV30m App has gain control, mute and EQ on the Aux channel!

I tried a Pro16 and heard an uncool hiss. Not the squealing like you heard, but the hiss typical of older PAs, and it was definitely louder than the Model II which by comparison is dead quiet, so I returned the Pro16. I don't know if the Pro8 suffers the same problem, but I'll find out soon enough. As for the wobble I found it nowhere as bad as I imagined. Of course it wobbles if you rock it back and forth with your hand (as any array will), but that's not normal use! The connections are more tight enough for normal use and will even withstand a hard bump. There's no way it's going to separate unless you push it hard enough that could damage other arrays. In my opinion, the wobble is seriously not an issue. But the hiss is very much an issue. My two cents :-)

I have listened to about six different l1 pro 16’s, never heard that high pitch…nor have I heard anyone else have that issue, sounds like you may have a defective unit. The soft hiss that I hear in mine is quite common with any ACTIVE system especially PA speakers, that’s how our sound crews check if the units are active and ready for sound check. I have run at least a dozen comparable units and really find the L1 pro one of the tops…price comparable!

There is one unique selling point for the Bose Pro line that no one has mentioned. You can literally stand or play a foot away from the column and it will not be overly loud at a good volume. Try that at 100dB+ with your typical top like QSC K12.2. Hope you are wearing ear protection!! At the same time DJs/performers report the tables closest to the array don't complain to turn it down. Again compare that with your typical point source 15"RCF?? Performers like the fact that they don't need to bring a separate monitor. Lower stage volume and feedback reduction are other selling points. These are the reasons Bose customers are willing to spend the extra $$$$.

Totally agree Simon. When I heard it I thought of a scenario of a singer songwriter just at home or somewhere quiet, getting ideas together trying different types of material. Also I don't know if the noise will get worse over time. I wasn't gonna hang around with it to find out. Too many things not right about this PA. They call it PRO16, it's definitely not PRO!

Thank you again Opaz for your work on this review. The sad part is this will not sway DJs away from using this product. They will buy it, and the tone match stuff to make it sound better. Some won't even do that. They will run this system as is and think they are killing the game. 🤣😅😂😅🤣😅🤣😂 If you are a performer, like with a keyboard or guitar I can see you wanting that flat, raw, mids-heavy sound. Or if you AR the engineer of a small band who prefers to do all the mixing on the final sound of the band. I totally get that, but I still feel there are better units out there for several hundred less that would definitely suit your purposes if completely blow the bose away. To the guy that said "we buy bose because people like it" youn sir are not being honest with us or yourself. You buy bose because you like saying you run a bose system. If ibhave learned one thing in my years of providing sound for clients is that they do not give 2 shits what you are using as long as it sounds decent and looks presentable. They care even less if it sounds great and looks great. The only.people that care are audiophiles, other djs, and you... cause again you like to say..."I run a fully bose system". More power to you I guess.

These shape drivers are as old as time itself but described without the hype. Why have 32 drivers in a column???? 🤔, just have many fewer GOOD or BETTER ones. I could have been a lot more brutal but I'd be a hater 🙄 with no idea! This PA has been one that has exhausted me and taught me a lesson that I was already aware of to tell you the truth.... My Bose Products sound better than my DB ES1203 and do not look at the specs as a way of judging things. It's just a reference. My Model II claimed only 124 max SPL and the DB Tech was 132 yet they were nearly the same volume when doing shootout at max volume outdoors. The way the speaker connects on the 16 is the same technology they have been using forever, and while it's a little wobbly, it's not going to break or affect anything. They have been like this for 15 years.

Purchased two BOSE L1 Pro 16 units. The instructions state it must be updated before it is used. Why it doesn't come updated from the factory is beyond me. The first one updated just fine. The second unit failed to connect. Hours upon hours of trouble shooting, I called BOSE support and they advised me to take it back. Took it back to Guitar Center and came home with a replacement. BOOM! Nothing. Same issue as the last one. Called BOSE support again and they said they would get back to me "within a few days." Took that one back today and received yet a third replacement. This one also fails to update but on top of that, the lighting on the mixer is sketchy and appears to have got past QA. When I return this one, it will be my 4th unit. I am 1/2 tempted to just return both and be done with it. When you shell out this kind of coin for an item, it should work right out the box, no questions asked. What a disappointment.

Where all these column systems continue to fall apart is price for sound and bass output. The sound community as a whole would never stand for a normal point source speaker that cost 1700.00, 1800.00 that put out less than 128db! Never but we give these column arrays a pass? Why? Right now my main system consist of one Evolve 50 that I have to support with a small 12 inches sub for bass because this system just does not deliver enough low end. The kids and high and throw is fine for most of my events, but the bass is trash. A Yamaha DXR 10 MK2, over a Yamaha DXS 15 MK2 would blow the top columns from bose, ev, turbosound, and RCF evox12 away for hundreds less. The Yamaha DXS12 would blow most of them away too, but I am afraid it would limit quickly. If you are not above mixing brand names the turbosound IP 300 over a good small rectangular sub is also a decent combo that will blow away most current column arrays. People want to like these things so much they just turn a blind eye to how stupid they actually are. It is a sad sad state of affairs man.
