Swedish troops have begun clearing the main supply route to the Bosnian town of Tuzla.
It will make access to the northeastern town easier for aid convoys, and U-N troops.
The Swedish troops prepared themselves to hunt out the mines Tuesday.
They wore special shoes designed to spread their weight and lessen the chances of setting off the deadly devices.
The area, previously occupied by Serbs had been littered with mines before it was retaken by the Bosnian government two months ago.
SOUNDBITE:(English)
"In this area there are lots of mines anti personnel and anti-tank mines. Right where we are standing we are searching for two up to six mines. Behind in the back there are seven mines being picked up and tank mines and further down the road is another type of anti -personnel mine."

The process is difficult and dangerous - the soldiers have to use small hand knives to search for the mines.

"And now we are clearing the road from Mainz so it will be possible for traffic to go along them - U-N traffic and convoys."

It will eventually become the main supply route for NATO forces based in Tuzla - if and when a peace agreement is signed in Ohio.
