If nothing else this video gave me the idea of using a simple loop riff to perfect my tones on all my pedals and on my head. Never would have thought to.

the fact they painted it blue and called it a blues drive when its a tube screamer clone drove me nuts so i went over it with a green highlighter. now its green but transitions and shimmers to blue depending how you look at it. kinda like the nebula PRS guitar.

I replaced the Blues Drive on my board a couple years ago, and just decided to dig it out and shoot it out vs a real BD-2 and an Ibanez TS9.... It is not a tubescreamer, either. It’s really not close to either of them. To my ears, it’s just kind of a boost pedal with a fizzy drive sound layered on top. I also have the Donner Extreme Drive - that one is fun for 80s shreddy gain. The Donner Blues Drive, I don’t think I’ll ever use it now that I have the real pedals (which aren’t that expensive). It’s probably better than some of the drive emulations on my Zoom G1X, but not by much.

It's not a tube screamer, it's a Marshall Bluesbreaker clone.

@@JC-fj7oo lol na, thats why its so confusing its a tube screamer. it even says so by donner "The Blues Drive is inspired by the legendary TS-style vintage tube overdrive pedal and its famous mods" theres even other video's that says its a tube screamer. where they compare the two. everyone says it should be green no blue. kzitem.info/news/bejne/qGiounuajpp-jag

The Donner Blues Drive is a Tubescreamer clone, so it is not likely to sound like a Boss BD-2. Many people mistake the Blues Drive as a BD-2 clone because of it's name when in fact the Donner is exactly the same as the Mooer Green Mile (a tubescreamer clone). The hot mode on the toggle switch turns the Blues Drive into pretty much a clean boost (and a pretty good one at that). The Mooer Blues Mood on the other hand IS a Boss BD-2 clone.

Yeah you're right man....people please stop saying that this is a "boss blues drive or Mooer blues mood clone". No it's NOT !! It is a Mooer green mile clone, so a tube screamer!!

Great video. Picked up mine earlier this week. I use it to add subtle girth to my clean sound, which I then boost with a TS. Works amazingly well.

The BD-2 is a great OD pedal, maybe the best one Boss has ever made... It's just not good for blues lol. The Donner, on the other hand, is perfect for pushing single coils into a small vintage tube amp & wailing away on the pentatonic scale.

Yep, I totally agree. I have both. Thought the Donner would be a good, less expensive substitute, but nope. It can't get those cleaner tones. Can't use it as a boost and/or for slight compression. I like my Boss much more.

Thanks for the comparison. I will say that the tube screamer and blues driver are NOT used interchangeably. The Tube Screamer gives you that mid boost while the blues driver has more of a bottom and high end boost. They are pretty different pedals as far as OD’s go (That Pedal Show does a great explanation, see link below). Beyond that, I appreciate the comparison as I was gonna go for the Donner until seeing this. That clarity is what I want and the Donner definitely does not deliver on that end. kzitem.info/news/bejne/uGaHxYmZbYaUa6Q

Awesome comparison. I agree with what you say. As music is more personal, the donner fits my style more. Videos like this 100% help my decision when buying. Many thanks 🤘😎👊

Try this, there's a priceless (for people that want to go contemporary blues sound) piece of professional equip call Marshall power brake, it can push speakers to sound dry driven(cranked master and channel vol) without increasing overall volume...then chain ur BD2, TS 808, or what I use a ancient rack mount tubeworks blues driver

I definitely prefer the donner. The boss one is great sounding until you get to high gain. The donner is also seemingly more transparent

I also find that I'm not particularly fond of the hot mode, as it sounds too compressed to my ears.

I bought a Donner Blues Drive pedal because it's cheap and I have some other Donner pedals such as the Tutti Live DT Deluxe & Noise Killer which are all great. But, I really can't say good things about the Blues Drive. Hot mode is virtually unusable. It sound harsh. Warm mode is okay at best so long as you keep th we level at no more than 12 o'clock and the gain reasonably low. But whatever the settings it just sound muddy, there no clarity or definition to it. I've tried it with clean and overdrive channels on valve amps and with a solid state amp. I've used P,90, single coil and humbuckers. I just can't tones out of this I even remotely like. I have the Donner Golden Tremolo as well. That also is pretty poor IMHO. Sometimes a bargain pedal is great, sometimes you just get a bargain sound.

odd: BOSS BD-2 tone mixes with level! thats why i use trans amps ( Hughes Kettner had an amp i owened and the bass mid an treb "interacted", Ill let Donner Blues Drive know when Ive tested one!

How would the donner sound with a high gain amp?
@smartacus88
3 жыл бұрын
Lots of guys use a TS type pedal to tighten up the gain on metal amps. Set drive on pedal almost all the way down, if not all the way down, have tone between a quarter and halfway, and dime the level.

Thanks Shrub :) The boss pedals are built like tanks and I love that they have a little thumbwheel to change batteries. No tools! I would also have zero reservations about getting used Boss pedals just because of their build quality.

Both sound good the donner sounds more Mello almost like a Santana sound. Boss is thicker like the Allman brother's. Boss would cut through better in louder bands Donner would pair well with a Tube screamer. I like layering my OD anyway

It's something...how sad it is. It's just terrible. And the game and the demo. Obviously, the man of the month is two, how he learned to crawl his fingers on the strings of the guitar. And already there, shoot a video about the blues drive pedals. Apparently, he does not even suspect how slaughter it all obeys and looks. Huge fat dislike. P.S. To learn to play on guitar, it is not necessary to hang many guitars on the wall. One Strat is enough.
