Hey Leon, you are the reason I’ve gotten back into guitar playing, I was big into it in the eighties, then it sort of drifted off the radar. When I discovered you and rag doll about a year and a half ago your tone and playing style lit me up like I can’t describe. I have fired up my old mark 3 boogie, purchased a new jp2c and a boatload of new gear and just bury myself in it. I’m 60 years old and better than I’ve ever been thanks to you. Your playing is fantastic, tone is amazing and your knowledge of music and gear is mind blowing. I swear you could make someone dragging their nails down a chalkboard sound good. Keep up the amazing work, I am always looking forward to your next video. Thank you for the kick in the ass that got me back into this. I’m setting up a preset in my boss gx100 with your settings at the moment, then gonna spend the rest of the day in it.

It’s the early morning hours of Monday, 19 February, 2024 as I comment. I purchased a 100 on Friday, and I am really digging the presets. It’s giving me some great ideas on how to program my own patches for it. It was worth clicking on this video among others, if only for the reminder that devices like this one can be strictly used as an FX generator if you already plugged into an amplifier that you’re satisfied with. My MO for the last 17 years has been to use my paddleboard to model amplifiers and look for a direct line into a PA channel whenever possible. Unorthodox though that may be, I feel like it produces pretty decent results.

I have one coming in tomorrow. I use a Helix floor at my gigs and it has way more than I'll ever use but it's housed in a heavy flight case and it's a drag to carry it around for a rehearsal or for a small gig where I don't need my Plexi preset, soldano preset, JTM45 preset...you get it. I just like how easy it was to get a really nice clean tone without a million parameters. I'll still run the Helix until it dies but it's nice to know there'll be a good back up and something I can take to a rehearsal without killing myself. Great video, great playing.

Simplicity goes a long way. The tone with just an amp and reverb was great, to start with! That gives you an idea of the quality and the thought that is put in a unit and how practical it is in real life situations, not a ton of effects and bizarre sounds to impress. You can have a good amp sound and then you add effects to taste. If your core tone is great then the effects are just the "pepper", the "mustard" and the likes that give you some different tastes! Very nice unit!

I was thumping through my old Guitar for the Practicing Musician magazine from the 80s recently and noticed the many ads for multi processors. Digitech, Boss, DoD, ART, etc. I remember how cool they looked and how much I wanted one. I had no idea how they really sounded outside of a quick demo at the local music store, if they had such a processor. Some of them hold up, but most are very dated and obsolete by "todays" standards. Fast forward to now, and I have an AXE FX 3. It's cool and sounds alright, today. But sure enough, someone will be lamenting how dated and obsolete it will be soon enough. Moral of this rant....tube amp and actual hardware may also go in and out of style, but they have a timeless trait that the processors lack.

After watching your demo, which was awesome, as always, I looked up the price for the GX-100. I fully expected it to be at least $1,000 US. I was shocked to see that it’s only $600, and the optional Bluetooth unit is $55. That makes it only $5 more than an HX Stomp, with a built in expression pedal and Bluetooth. That’s pretty amazing. I really like the touchscreen concept. I have an FM3, which I absolutely love, but I wish Fractal would adopt touchscreen interfaces. One thing I wish all modelers would integrate is an actual display of what is assigned to each foot switch. Let’s say I’m doing a gig, and I have several presets with different effects assigned to different foot switches for each one. It’s great that I can assign switch #6 to turn the flanger on and off in a preset, but in the middle of a gig I might not remember which switch I assigned it to. I wish there were a little display above each foot switch that would say “Flanger”, for example, so I can see what I’m controlling without having to memorize the entire layout of where I assigned things. Maybe there’s a unit that already has that, but I think all modelers should include that feature. I think Fractal has the best technology internally, but they have the least user friendly interfaces.

Love the jam #3. I like the fact that you can have a short effect chain on this new unit. However, the unit still needs more buttons to get to the thing that you need quicker. Maybe you can touch the new block hexagon on the screen and out comes a category list of effects you can choose for that new block. I will have to read the manual to figure it out. Since I barely scratched the surface with my boss gt100 unit I got back in 2012, I think I'm good for couple more years. I usually use my tube amp with couple of pedals. I ran my gt100 into my tube amp's effects return and it sounded great. It's also ok with a frfr pa speaker. I still prefer my tube amp and pedals though mainly for simplicity and good tone.

Nice demonstration. Thanks. But: What on earth would the effects loop add to the endless possibilities?

I do love my GT1000 but as mentioned I like how the GX removes all unnecessary blocks for a clean view of your channel.

Is the packaging and ui the only difference from the two? I'm looking to upgrade from my POD GO because of certain limitations like only one amp/cab/ir at a time in addition to only having up to 6 effects that quickly drain it's dsp. Thank you in advance.

@@Coles-bootleg-vids The gt-1000 is the flagship model. Dsp wise the Gx has less power but by not too much, fairly similar. You'll find it will be an upgrade from the GO. Absolute zero latency and you can run parallel chains (using two amps and cab's for a bigger sound). I've have never hit max latency either on the GT-1000 sometimes running multiple amps, effects, IRs, cabs, etc. I do run 3rd party IR's to get the best sound out of it. Something to think about prior to purchase.

@@GTruck0 I have a bunch of IRs trying to get as much milage from my POD GO as I can, but since it's limited to 1024 IRs only I don't know if I can use a blended IR ir not, but with either of the BOSS products I can use 2 so Imo that justifies the price to after trade. But from someone who owns a GT-1000 what would you recommend?

@@Coles-bootleg-vids I would recommend mate You have two options - You can run Two IR's - one left and one right speaker (I do this) or -I have had success blending my favourite IR's together using STL IGNITE - LIBRA so the IR's I run are a blend of my favourite ones - I did have to covert the STL file in my DAW into a file the boss 1000 recognised. Hope this helps

@@GTruck0 Ooh that is right, since I have that other descktop IR loader (can't remember the name) but I can effectively do that too. Only downside is that I can't take both IRs with me if I take my gear somewhere else away from my pc.
