Brad Delp was one of rock's most prolific vocalists. THe band's formula was amazing to say the least, such a pity there was so much strife. It really impacted Delp's mental health and was a contributing factor in the taking of his own life. He's deeply missed by my generation.

Because of the reaction channels, I recently learned about Brad's passing and how. It broke my heart 💔 to know that such a talented man with such a sweet crystal clear voice was gone... I remember the group Boston when they were new and I fell hard the moment I heard them on the radio and vinyl!!! 🌟 🇺🇸 🎤🥁🎸

My favorite song of all time. Boston had the best-selling debut album for decades. Every song is a banger. Brad Delp (RIP) is a truly underrated singer, he spans 4 octaves in this song. He also sings all backup vocals. (This video is not live, it has the album audio played over it.) Tom Scholz (lead guitar in the video) is the genius behind Boston. He played all instruments except drums on the album and recorded it in his basement with Brad and a drummer (not the one in the video). They had to hire a band so they could tour. A deep dive is recommended here.

Tom Scholz's 1 man masterpiece, conceived and recorded in his home studio (dude's an MIT educated engineer). I believe the rest of the 'band', other than vocalist Brad Delp and Sholtz himself, were put together for touring after most, if not all of the original LP was cut.

My wife is a talented vocalist with 30 years experience from childhood, a family of musicians. I was taking her to see a "BOSTON" cover band "Long Time" (excellent by the way). So, I played this first album from beginning to end while we were driving to the venue and she was just floored by Brad Delp. Stopping, rewinding and listening again...She compared it to a "UFO" going from 30,000 feet to sea level and back again in 2 seconds.

This song always gives me flashbacks. When I was in Navy basic training, back in early 1991, we'd run PT in a drill hall, because there was too much snow and ice to do anything outside. Our Company Commander would play this song on the sound system in the drill hall. That descending guitar part, right before it goes uptempo into the chorus, always seemed to give us a massive surge of energy.

Amazing riff, and out-of-this-world vocals. Not only can Delf get to that lofty register that few males can reach, but his voice is quite rich and aesthetically pleasing. The subject is something most of us have been through, so it's relatable. This is one of the greatest rock songs of all time. This genre of Ballad/Arena/progressive style rock was filled with other bands that were great in their own right: Boston Kansas REO Speed Wagon Styx Chicago Rush Journey I'm sure I'm missing some, but there are a lot of gems in there.

When I was in my late teens we got a buddies guitar amp and portable 8-track player.. and cranked the first Boston release on a main road in my hometown!!!.. 👊🏼😂.. Was about 11:00 at night .. Needless to say the cops were called and we had to shut it down .. They were sympathetic and told us of a spot outside town where they knew there was an electrical outlet access for the amp .. We knew the place and went there and cranked to whole 8-track..

What can you say about Brad Delp’s vocal acrobatics on this song. He hits that huge falsetto high and sustains the fuck out of it! Just an amazing performance. The whole band for that matter. Also the guitar riff is etched in my brain since the day this album hit the airwaves. Today’s weak music makes me realize without a doubt that we reached the mountain top in the 60s and 70s. No one has been there since as far as quantity, quality, musicianship and lyrical content. Yes there have been bangers in other decades but not in the abundance we had in the 60s and 70s. Today’s music just can’t touch it!
