That is so awesome that Northwoods is your favorite. I recently ordered it and it has quickly become my favorite tobacco of all time. Cheers.

Thanks for the excellent rundown of the English Sampler pack from Boswells! Looking forward to the discussion panel in the future. I can think of a couple questions for the panel. 1. Best way to store open pipe tobacco without using mason jars? 2. Pipe Collecting - What key elements ensure your investment goes up in value?

Hi, thank you all for the videos, I am a new tobacco smoker and your channel had been a really nice company while I smoke my pipes, my question is how to recognize the flavors in my tobaccos?

To me it’s a few things...1. The less toppings or casings a tobacco has, the easier it is to taste tobacco. If it’s heavy-loaded with toppings, you won’t taste much of the tobacco and the chance is your tasting hot air. 2. Your nose has a lot to do with how things taste, so develop your sense of smell. This will help you pick out certain flavors on the palate. 3. Smoke sloooow. Take your time - you’ll be amazed at how that helps the flavors come out. 4. If your tobacco is wet, let it dry out some. Wet tobacco has a tendency to burn hot and all you will taste is a bite. 5. Experiment with different bowl sizes. See if a smaller or larger bowl brings out a flavor in what you are smoking. 6. Read reviews from others on the tobacco you are smoking and see if you can pick out some of the things they are talking about. Tobaccoreviews.com is a good source. 7. Have fun! It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Don’t forget to enjoy the smoke. 8. Keep notes on what you smoke and see if there is something consistent that keeps showing up with each blend...or something different. I keep notes on all my blends and refer back to them often. Tobacco changes over time, and I like to refresh my memory as to what I tasted last week, last month or last year. There is so much more but these few should help you on your way. Keep asking people questions, join different Facebook groups, and if possible, get involved with a local pipe club. I’ve learned a bunch from mine. Hope this helps. Cheers!

One of our well-known YTPC members and once prolific poster (Classical Pipes) referred to it as the “Sutliff sauce” and, yeah-I’m not a fan either.

I agree on the Northwoods. I tend to gravitate toward the Englishes with some oriental neither Northwoods nor Railroad Station has any.

A couple of question suggestions. The use of boveda 69 or 72 for long term storage in jars. Also the question of ‘hidden’ ingredients. I personally would like to know exactly what toppings or flavourings are used but not for regulations purposes as we have enough regulations as is. Is it better to store in an un opened tin or transfer to a jar as some tobaccos are sometimes wet or too dry so refer to boveda? Should we be fighting for an upper limit on tax as here, we have no end in site for tax increases. Here all packaging is being vandalised by warning labels ruining packaging. Will this start spilling over to other things. Alcohol, food ect. When will it stop. Loyal viewer from the U.K.

QUESTION??? What else can I smoke in my pipe? I know there are aromatics, but what are they and are they combined with tobacco? Can say mango, orange, peach, be dried and smoked in a pipe without combining with tobacco? If I want to smoke a pipe but don't want to smoke any tobacco what other options are there? THANKS, PS: I am new, and know nothing about pipe smoking.

Hello Reed. Aromatics are tobaccos that are topped with some type of flavoring, for example vanilla, cherry, licorice, and many other food grade flavors. The idea is to impart those flavors as you smoke the tobacco. Some are successful, but many of them smell great but taste awful! I’ve never tried to smoke anything other than tobacco in my pipe!! I would suggest that you consider doing the same. Don’t want to gunk up your pipe!

I saw your first post about best Englishes but now I can’t find it... That is a very subjective question. I’m a Balkan person so my favorites are Plum Pudding SR, Cup o’ Joes No. 24 Balkan Kake and Hearth and Home 10 to Midnight. All are Balkans and all are full Latakia blends, but still have a touch of sweetness and a creamy mouthfeel. Mac Baren Latakia Flake and G L Pease Spark Plug are right up there as regular Englishes.

The best place I’ve seen for older/out of production tobaccos is pipestud.com. His name is Steve Fallon and every Saturday at 10 am central time he posts new items. Got to be quick, though. His stuff goes fast.
